‘Hustlers’: Cardi B, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer & Julia Stiles Join Constance Wu & Jennifer Lopez In Avenging Strippers Pic

STX is pulling together an intriguing cast for upcoming movie Hustlers, we can reveal.

Joining Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians) and Jennifer Lopez (Second Act) will be music star Cardi B in her feature debut, Lili Reinhart (Riverdale), Keke Palmer (Scream Queens), Julia Stiles (Silver Linings Playbook) and Oscar-winner Mercedes Ruehl (The Fisher King). Mette Towley (Cats) and Trace Lysette (Transparent) are in negotiations to join the film.

Writer-director Lorene Scafaria’s (The Meddler) movie, inspired by a 2016 New York Magazine article, follows a crew of savvy former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients.

The film marks the feature debut of Grammy winner Cardi B, who last year collaborated with Jennifer Lopez on song Dinero.

Shoot will begin on March 22, 2019 in NYC. STXfilms is producing alongside Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina, who previously collaborated with STX on 2018 rom-com Second Act, as well as Adam McKay, Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum for Gloria Sanchez Productions.

Kate Vorhoff and Catherine Hagedorn are overseeing the film’s production for STX. STXinternational is handling international distribution and distributing directly in the U.K. and Ireland.

“We could not have asked for a more exciting or talented lineup of performers to join our cast,” said Adam Fogelson, Chairman of STXfilms. “STX is thrilled to reunite with Jennifer, Elaine and Benny to bring this unexpected, entertaining and often shocking story to the big screen for audiences worldwide.”

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with this dynamic group of women,” said Scafaria. “We’re grateful to have assembled such a powerhouse cast and can’t wait to start filming at the end of the week.”

Cardi B is represented by CAA; Reinhart is represented by UTA and Anonymous Content; Palmer is represented by 3 Arts, UTA and Cari Davine at Hertz Lichtenstein & Young; Stiles is represented by Untitled Entertainment, The Gersh Agency and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern; and Ruehl is represented by Sue Leibman/Barking Dog Entertainment and Peikoff-Mahan Law Offices.

Towley is represented by 3 Arts and WME and Lysette is represented by ICM Partners and Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka Finkelstein & Lezcano. Wu is represented by UTA, Principal Entertainment LA and Hansen Jacobson. Lopez is represented by CAA, The Medina Co. and Hirsch Wallerstein. Scafaria is represented by UTA.

Cast was off to a strong start with Wu and Lopez. The rest of those, not so much. Especially Cardi B.... ugh...

If we can discuss the plot for a minute here, did these Wall Street clients pull a Madoff in them or are they getting even just because? The description isn't quite clear.

Why does it have to be black and white in the first place? Life rarely is, to be honest.

Now, I have no idea how they will handle the story in the film, obviously. But, my first thought would be to use the story to pain a picture of greed, narcissism, and general lack of moral and ethical concern that not only pervades the characters in the film, but pervades society as a whole.

At least, that would be my take.

That's something I can get behind since I'm fascinated with films about corporate greed or greed, in general. But, I think will happen is that it will get turned into some largely fictionalized empowerment story. This is based on the description I read. Hopefully, this will be something more and be the movie you're thinking of.

And remember when this is set (assuming they keep the same timeframe as the actual events). If you walked up to an average American in the aftermath of the 2008 disaster and said, "These strippers stole all this money from a bunch of Wall Street guys. How do you feel about that?" The answer you would most likely get is, "Good for them. You go girls! Those bastards deserved it. They took my house, I lost my job, my kid can't go to college anymore ...." Etc.

People were SERIOUSLY PISSED! People's 401k accounts had fallen basically apart, people had lost their pensions, their homes, everything. If a bunch of gals that, honestly, just a few years earlier they would have viewed as "dirty sluts" stole money from a bunch of Wall Streeters that these average people blamed (mostly rightly, to be honest) for all their present problems, then good. That was the attitude at the time, as I'm sure you'll remember.

But yeah, I think it would be much better to tell it as a story of how the Wall Street brand of financial crime, moral sociopathy, and complete greed and narcissism had "infected" many around them, including these girls. The strippers had become just as bad as those they were ripping off because SOCIETY itself had just become this cess pool.

Like I said, that would be my take. Then again, I'm not a writer. So what do I know?

And as far as Cardi B is concerned, I don't see how we can place a judgement on her when this is, AFAIC, her first movie. She could be great. She could be awful. She could be average. But how could any of us know? Let's let her do her job, see her work, and *then* make a judgement. That seems the rational way to go about it.

TBH, I barely know who she is. But judging by the little searching I did, if she's supposed to play a stripper (or recently ex-stripper) then she definitely looks the part. And no, that's not me trying to trash her character or something. She just *does* look like someone who could be a stripper.

She was one before she became a singer, heh.
