Cardi was a stripper for 4 years, so she definitely has an inside track, which will probably work to her advantage.

Plus, I can’t imagine her being more than say, Rihanna’s character in Oceans 8. Showing up, being herself, being funny and waltzing out at the end looking BAD AF.

Her interviews have been funnier than anything Tiffany Haddish has done.

I’m totally down for seeing more of her crazy personality in her first film role.

She can be pretty darn hilarious at times.

Brtnasty has a good point. Her role can be along the lines of Rihanna in Ocean's 8.

Could be sorta like LeBron in Trainwreck too. They found the right comedic lines for his “persona”.

And LeBron is a funny dude, just on his own. Like Rihanna, and I'm assuming from what you guys are saying, this gal.

Yeah, exactly. Saw a bit of him in that film, and he was fun.

And remember when this is set (assuming they keep the same timeframe as the actual events). If you walked up to an average American in the aftermath of the 2008 disaster and said, "These strippers stole all this money from a bunch of Wall Street guys. How do you feel about that?" The answer you would most likely get is, "Good for them. You go girls! Those bastards deserved it. They took my house, I lost my job, my kid can't go to college anymore ...." Etc.

People were SERIOUSLY PISSED! People's 401k accounts had fallen basically apart, people had lost their pensions, their homes, everything. If a bunch of gals that, honestly, just a few years earlier they would have viewed as "dirty sluts" stole money from a bunch of Wall Streeters that these average people blamed (mostly rightly, to be honest) for all their present problems, then good. That was the attitude at the time, as I'm sure you'll remember.

But yeah, I think it would be much better to tell it as a story of how the Wall Street brand of financial crime, moral sociopathy, and complete greed and narcissism had "infected" many around them, including these girls. The strippers had become just as bad as those they were ripping off because SOCIETY itself had just become this cess pool.

Like I said, that would be my take. Then again, I'm not a writer. So what do I know?
Good point. I do remember that moment in time all too well. Also, things got even more hairy when the stories of Bernie Madoff's ponzi scheme broke because he ripped off the rich and the average citizen and the latter had zero sympathy for the rich victims.

Perhaps, this story can also be featured on an episode of American Greed.

Honestly, the only real thing that saved me at the time was a few of the positions I held that didn't really feel the effects of the crash. Even Apple, my main position, which took quite the hit back then eventually held on and was amazing in the following years. Yeah, it sort of fell off a bit in the past couple of years, but it's climbing back beautifully. So, those of us who had that opportunity to invest on our own were in at least so-so shape.

Your average person/investor? Not so much. And it was also much harder then, of course, if you still had a mortgage. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Those who have, they have the opportunity to survive harsh times. Those who don't, they are basically screwed. It's tough, obviously, when you don't have the resources to swim through tough waters.

Hopefully this film will be about that, too. A bunch of lower class strippers/pros/whatever just decided, "Screw it. Why should we get ****ed over, when these guys have everything?!" In a way, even though it's horrible what they did, it's also sort of funny. Imagine some jack-*** who graduated Yale, works on Wall Street, drives a Jaguar, blah blah blah, getting held over a barrel by some stripper with barely a HS education (if even) from Queens. I have to admit, it makes me laugh.

The world is a funny place.

Anyways, I could go on about economic inequality and how screwed up our system is for pages and pages and pages. But I won't for two reasons:

1) I don't want to get banned for getting too political.

2) It doesn't really, as far as we know now anyways, have anything to do with the movie.

Read the article Creed linked and honestly, making such brazen criminals into sympathetic females with, "Male Patriarchy" etc. and making the men out to be scumbag criminals to rob and dehumanising them as nothing more than "Pathetic men to be used" for financial gain as the movie will do, will probably get a standing ovation somewhere.

With the cast they're running, they'll spin it positively but i would honestly prefer a more accurate portrayal of how their own life choices led them to be criminal and pay the price. Not sure they'll do that cause it's harder to market and a lot less likely to get sympathy.

I don't see his posts -- for obvious reasons -- but let met guess. NARMAK says that this movie will be some horrible pro-woman/anti-man screed that artistically castrates the male of the world and avoids any serious social commentary.

Was I close?

Yes, "man of the world" and whatever that means lol. I don't care if you can't see my posts and for whatever "obvious reasons" you claim that is that made you put me on an ignore list, but at least i'm more than happy to back up my PoV with a legitimate concern or criticism of things.

I'm also not afraid to call it BS if anybody infers i don't like to see roles with females etc. in prominent roles etc. but i do appreciate serious social commentary. I' d like to come back to your post and see whether the movie did bother to do that or glamourise the whole thing with little to no serious commentary.

It's safe to say with a cast featuring J-Lo and Cardi B (amongst others), not glamourising their endeavours would be hugely surprising. I don't think they'll be going down the topless women, hard liquor, and cocaine route with this one, lol. It's gonna be a breezy empowerment romp!

Which is why it's probably gonna make bank, but again as i mentioned above. Throws out an opportunity of social commentary and consequence.

I'll tell you one movie i quite liked unnecessary bath stub scene aside. The Big Short. It really captured an easy to follow way of showing the circumstances around the sub prime markets and what happened in an entertaining way.

I'd love if they could do something similar here and make that blend, but as you said, probably won't happen.

I do know what you're saying. But I have a feeling we may be surprised by this. We'll have to see.
