It is terrible, as bad as anything used on Mystery Science Theater. The 3d is really good, though.

This is a trilogy?? Will check out the trailer.

Well I found this on YouTube and watched as much as I could. This is pretty dreadful. Glad I didn’t blindbuy.

Watched it last night. Yeah, REALLY crappy movie, but great 3D. The film just kind of stopped without any sort of "ending" so perhaps they will release a sequel. However, I am kind of hoping they filmed them all at the same time, because I don't think they're making a lot of $ off this. The women were hot, though, LOL.

Default Watching this Now

Home due to the tropical storm so thought I'd watch this. Picked it up at Best Buy for less than 10 bucks awhile back. 3D is really good. Pop-out early on reminded me of Andy Warhol's Frankenstein on a smaller, darker scale. Colors in film are washed out. I know it's a desert, but c'mon. It almost looks like the washed-out 1979 Dracula with Frank Langella. I'll report back later.

Picked this up recently when Hamilton ran latest sale for like $5. If youre in that part of the Venn diagram at the interface of campy graphically violent horror movies and a fun 3d experience, then this is a movie for you. Shot in 3d using funky polecam set up. Acting is somewhat laughable but some really enjoyable 3d shots. In fact, the 3d makes the rest of the movie tolerable. Would not recommend in 2d and would be super mad if someone made me sit through it in 2d. I felt after watching that it was not a total waste of time unlike Static 3d and Prototype 3d...as long as you go in not expecting good acting, dialogue, or plot. Ive been making my way through the Kino Lorber reissued 3d movies such as Ape, Gog, and September Storm which are running in the $20-25 range and American Mummy 3d aka Aztec Blood is more fun and much cheaper.

This movie finally dropped in price to $9.99 new to something reasonable for a very low budget horror film. American Mummy takes place entirely at a desert camp with a few tents. A number of college archeologists inspect a mummy and one of them brings it to life on purpose. Strange film but lots of moments for strong 3D pop outs. The film can be very gory at times. I got the sense they were going for an Evil Dead 1 vibe with some of the characters who were possessed. As far as the mummy, he mostly just possesses others and lays motionless on the dirt. The film doesn't take itself seriously and has hints of comedy in there, so that helps. Unrated, but I'd say it's an R rating if it was.

3D Quick Review: American Mummy was filmed in 3D.
3D Layering: 8/10 Mostly medium with some strong 3D layers.
3D Pop Outs: A decent amount of strong 3D pop outs.
3D Framing: 8/10 Good framing, made with 3D in mind. Nicely done.
Favorite 3D shot: I'll say the pop outs and strong 3D shots. There's a shot of a spear in a guy's back that sticks out far.
3D Summary: 8/10. Definitely worth checking out for the 3D, with the film lasting 1 hour and 21 minutes.

I thought the reviewers creamed this both for story and 3D.

Don't care about the story. Is the 3D itself worth it?

Zivhour’s reviews are always pretty spot-on and they gave the 3d a solid 8/10, and the13man said it was really good 3D as well. Those reviews were enough for me to pick this up cheap at HamiltonBook. Still haven’t watched it yet but I will soon!

I was hoping the movie would be more of an adventure film, but much of it takes place in that camp and the tents, so not the most exciting location.

The 3D is worth a watch IMO, but if the story isn't your preference, then you might only watch the film 1 time. I waited for a sale which made it easier to buy.

Thanks Trialobite! I try to be accurate with my descriptions of the 3D.
I'll have to rewatch this for the 3D one of these weeks.

I really struggled through this tbh. I love horror movies and have a pretty low bar for them to clear in order for me to enjoy them but this was seriously dull and the acting was really poor. There were a few good gore fx and the 3D was absolutely excellent but it felt like they did very little with it and the settings were too limited/ dull to allow for much 3D scope. Shame, there was a lot of potential with the idea but it just kind of plodded along.

I pre-ordered through Amazon and didn't get a slipcase.

Yeah, the native 3D is excellent but the film itself is garbage.

This movie is one of the worst movies ever. The story was crap, the acting was ultra-crap, and the 3D was strong crap. There is no redeeming quality to this film and I've said so many times in this forum, but don't take my word for it. By all means waste your money, but there is no one (yes, that is two words) that is happy it is in their collection. It's a bad deal at 2 dollars. It's not worth the shipping.

The 3D at least is worth a look even if the movie wasn't up to the task. I think I appreciated some of the humor it tried to convey, but otherwise, I only watched it that one time so far. I see it's 9.99 in the links at the moment.
