Hong Kong PEACE HOTEL HK Blu-ray

CN Entertainment/Mei Ah - around April 18th in Hong Kong. I wonder which version of the film will be on the disc?

Guess there is no hope it will contain the international version with the additional action scene showing Chow Yung Fat sliding down a ladder while firing a gun?

That scene probably won't be in there, but I really wish it was. I think I still have the UK DVD, which does have that scene.

Okay, I took a chance and ordered this. On the back cover is a shot of Chow with the machine gun, so I'm HOPING this means it includes that scene.

This is a special movie for me, as I attended the Museum of Fine Arts showing in Boston in 1995, where Chow Yun-fat was there and introduced it. A very fun evening, and I really did love the movie.

That plus the 5.1 remix means I'll be sticking with my Optimum DVD.

I got the BD in the mail and gave it a quick look. Yes, the gunfight scene is not in there. Too bad, because the picture quality of the rest of it looks quite good to my eyes.

I'm normally not too concerned with cuts, but this one really bothers me. Why the hell was this gunfight scene cut? It's not at all graphically violent or particularly disturbing. And as far as the movie goes, on the action front it's a slow burner, with all this tension building with the gang being outside looking for the confrontation, and all of Chow Yun-fat's friends bailing out on him. And then when the gang finally attacks, Chow pulls out the machine gun and decimates the gang in a really well-filmed action scene. Why would this be cut? Chow was wildly popular especially FOR his high-octane gunfight scenes, and this scene is the only one of those in the movie. It makes no sense at all to cut this scene.

I still love the movie though, and I don't know if Cecilia Yip won any awards for this, but she stole the whole movie with her performance, IMO.

Not sure if anyone has noticed, but it looks like there's a German version coming out in September and the run time is 1 minute longer. Maybe that release will have this gunfight scene?

Keep away. This is most likely a bootlegs. Licences from Golden Princess are unavailable outside of Asia.

I just watched the German disc last night. I didn't know anything about this movie really until finding out about it a few weeks ago. Had no idea there was a cut version before reading this thread just now.

Based on the descriptions in this thread, the scene in question definitely appears to be included on the German disc.

No idea if it's a bootleg release or not, but it looks OK (warning that I'm not a good judge of picture quality, but it's at least a true hd image with no atrocious issues) and that scene seems to be present, unless it's a shortened version of it which I wouldn't know.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe this will be a good sign that Peace Hotel will receive the proper treatment it deserves in other countries soon.

Golden Princess distributed the title. Maybe the rights fell back into somebody else's hands (I won't pretend to know all the nuances) but I'm guessing this is a bootleg that uses the Hong Kong Blu-ray as a base, possibly editing in any missing scenes from a DVD or something. (The Germans love to edit stuff together, for better and for worse.)
