PS3 network ERROR

Im in a college dorm that has internet connection..im hooking my ps3 up directly connected. When i begin the network setup..it says IP address: Succeeded but Connection: Failed

I get this error Number (80028EO2) - Timed Out

any help?

Have you used it there before?

Try checking all the connections and make sure you have everything there correct. After you have done that and it's ok, make sure you have the right server and password. If anything try resetting this connection. If it keeps saying server ok, connection failed, it could be a server is down in the building or somewhere on campus. Good luck.

I just moved in to my dorm.. so no i have never used this connection before...i know this connection is working properly..because the connection to my computer (by ethernet) is working fine.
In order for me to connect to the internet by my ps3 is i have to connect the ps3 by my computer's ethernet..but it still says connection failed...

Hmmm.......is there a way to connect through a wi-fi connection? Maybe there is a way you can do this. Sorry you are having so much trouble with this. I wondered why I didn't see you on my PS3 network.

I believe this is probably what's happening. A lot of universities block ports on their networks for security or other reasons. You might try inquiring about it at your school's engineering department (these are usually the guys that run the networks, including the security) and see if such usage is allowed, or if there are workarounds.

I had to enter a Network ID when I hooked my PS3 up wirelessly. I'm sure you would have to do this even through ethernet connection. You may have to call the cable company or internet provider and get them to assist you. I lucked up the guy that installed my wireless router gave me the number to enter and stayed while I setup my PS3...

Try and turn the Media Server OFF in your network settings of your PS3. This may let you connect and causes a lot of ppl issues with certain network hardware.

I sympathize with you. Here is what worked for me last year on my 360, hook the ps3 up to the net on the port you will be using, get it to attempt a connection and get its MAC # (somewhere in where you get connection stats), and you give that to the people who run the net on campus. that should clear the issue. good luck and happy gaming!
