Real Ghostbusters SD on BD - Blu-ray Forum

Towards the end of last year, the Real Ghostbusters series was released in a 3 disc "SD on Blu-Ray" set in Germany.

The packaging says it is region B, but I know sometimes they are actually region free even if the packaging says otherwise.

Has anyone tried this on a US player?

I can't give you a definitive answer but even if they are region-free then the fact that they appear to be PAL will mean you'll probably have problems playing them on a US TV anyway because most suck at playing 50Hz content.

Some players get around that. I discovered this issue the hard way when I imported the complete series of Parker Lewis Can't Lose after seeing info stating that it was region free.

At first I thought it wasn't region free since after trying it in a couple of Blu-Ray players and a PS3, I couldn't get it to work. Then I found out about the 50HZ thing, and looked up compatible players, with the PS4 being one of them, tried it in that, and it worked. The Xbox One (which I also have) is also listed as being compatible, though I haven't ever tested it.

So in theory I should be all set with being able to watch this assuming that it is not region locked.

bluray-disc.de lists it as B locked.

Did anyone pick up this release? interested to hear opinions on the picture/audio quality before I place an order.

just received mine. i'll look at it tonight in my region free player. the Region A player at work is not playing it, so i can assume it is a Region B locked. i can see the warnings and the company logo, but then it goes back to the player menu (not the disc menu).

Sounds more like it’s Region Free but the menu is PAL while the opening intros are 24fps.

I have my finger over the checkout button so looking forward to hearing your thoughts in this.

You mean the blu-ray player i tried it in doesn't handle PAL?

Quite possibly, I know whenever I try to play a Blu-Ray with 50hz content in my Region A Sony player it will play the 24hz intros fine but then go straight back to the player menu.

You were right, my PS4 is playing it fine.

As for the quality, it is what it is. It's definitely dvd quality. I've seen better looking dvds, but it's fine.

Since it's the only way to get all the episodes, we'll have to live with it for now

Are there any hardcoded German subtitles on the episodes?

Great, i hope you like it. Too bad we don't have a proper north american release, and thatnwe can't find the proper dvd release
