Default HD DVD fans buying Blu-ray players?

I don't know if the trend is the same in the US?? In Denmark a lot of movie nerds, who bought a HD-DVD player last year are now buying a Blu-ray players also.

Eventhough some of them has been strong HD-DVD supportes, because they bought this player first, the larger studio support finally got to them. There are simply to many good movies released exclusively on Blu-ray which they can't live without.

Some of them are also getting a little tired of these "combo disk" and buy the Blu-ray version instead. When importing all the way from the US, it's quite annoying to receive a disk, that doesn't work. According to some of them, they have experienced problems with several titles

On the other hand I don't see Blu-ray owners buying into HD-DVD, because the studio support is large.

It's been an ever increasing trend that I expect to really ramp up come holiday season time when all of the BD studios really crank out some gems.

I totally agree. I have been noticing that myself. Even just on this forum there have been MANY new post I have seen from people stating that just switched or atleast just bought into BD who previously owned only HD-DVD.

The consumers with any sense are seeing that Blu-ray is definatly the way to go. I know its going to be tough for those who have paid $500 or more for their HD-DVD player to drop another 500 right now, but I expect with the falling 4Q prices combine with huge 4Q blockbusters were gonna see alot more BD owners by the end of the year

Nothing wrong with that. They enjoyed High Definition through HD-DVD and now they are moving to the soon to be new standard, Blu-Ray.

I'm glad to hear this.

But something about this trend doesn't ad up with the argument from Mr. Kornblau. I just read the article concerning Universals present position in proportion to the High-def "war", and the argument "whats best for the consumer" is ridiculous.

How can it be in the consumers best interesed to buy into a format (some times accidentally ) , that doesn't have the support from most studios? Even the nerds, who knew about the war are now forced to buy a Blu-ray player also.

I havn't sold one single HD-DVD player in my store. People still comes in wanting to buy a HD-DVD player but after explaining everything about the formats and a specially about the studie support (Disney has a very strong effect) then they don't buy. I wish that all shop assistants would explain this correctly. So the consumer gets whats REALLY the best for them.

I can understand that, lets be honest.. its a killer not being able to get hold of some of Universals titles let alone when you can't get any of Foxes, Disney/Buena Vista, Sony etc.. that was the main reason I plumped for Blu-ray to start with and am glad I did..

I think the likelyhood of Universal eventually releasing on Blu-ray is infinately higher than it is of getting Disney+SONY+Fox etc going the other way and most people realise this so don't bother getting a HD DVD player when they know chances are given a year or two all of Universals titles will be available anyway.

yeah I really agree with that aswell I dont think sony dis. exc, is hurting since they usually have movies in the top 5-50 every week where there company is losing that huge market of ps3s , and people with standalone blu-ray players

Actually that's exactly the answer I get from most costumers when we speak about the studio support.

Universal going neutral now would make things a hell of a lot easier, but in my opinion he's overestimating the importance of Universal. Blu-ray will win / is winning, but right now a lot of customers are still buying into a dying format, which according to him, "is the best thing, that has ever happended to consumers"

Actually, think they were like the rest of us--
Were holding out for the Combo players, and then gave in to all those jokes about "Cheaper just to buy both".

it is everywhere, and in a sense it is what is causing all the issues. Some people made a big mistake and spent money they could not afford on HD DVD and now they are extremely angry that soon the player they bought will be useless.

Universal can say what they want now and give us their position and stance however what it comes down to is simple: The Winner of this format war will be decided this holiday season. While I along with many of you already know with 90-95% certainty that Blu-ray is already the winner, this holiday season the numbers should pretty much bring the debate to an end. So for now it is just time to sit back, support blu, and wait for the end of this HDUD nonsense.

true. I guess when you are put in a precarious position and with that contract you have to say nice things. It is desperation tactics and they are grasping at straws.

Let's not forget all the hd dud fanboys also don't count the PS3 in the sales of Blu Ray players, yet most of us on here are using them as such. It was a big part of why I got mine in the first place. Yet bring up the add on for the 360 and they DO count that one as well as the Toshiba players.

When Toshiba pays me to buy a HD-DVD player...then I might consider it.

I am from NC since I have been buying blu rays I have never seen anyone buy a HDUD in my area and I have been buying about 2 blu rays a week atleast for a few weeks now. I think that HD is going though a slow and painful death and Universal is just trying to give it CPR.HDs are always in stock in the stores and blu rays are always sold out of good titles.

And after this Universal has pissed me off greatly just because they havent came to the side of the war that acutally makes money.
