Default Displaying your collection and extra packaging.

Ok, I am just curious who here is like me and what other methods people use in regards to your Blu-ray collection as well as your DVD collection.

First off, displaying your collection, myself personally I keep my collection broken up into categories but on the same shelf. To be more specific, starting at the top of the shelf, I have all my of TV box sets including Blu-rays all alphabetically of course. Next on the list is all my Blu-ray movies in alphabetic order again followed by the lonely DVDs way down at the bottom, again in alphabetical order. Anyone else do it differently? I am very picky myself as to how all my electronics are displayed!

Secondly the extra packaging, ie. cardboard sleeves and what not. Personally I remove these if and only if it adds nothing to the packaging. By this I mean if it is the exact same as the Blu-ray case art than I ditch it but if it adds something different I will allow it to remain. Some exapmples of packaging I leave intact would be The Dark Knight, since upon removing the sleeve the case art has a different cover picture as well as the graffiti on the back. On the flip side there are movies like Pirates of the Caribbean or King Kong where upon removing the cardboard sleeve you are left with the EXACT same art as well as specs and descriptions and spine details. Those get tossed, (however not very far, I keep them deep in a closet somewhere). Point being if it adds nothing it doesn't get displayed!

Anyone care to comment?

I get rid of all my sleves. I like my shelves to be uniform. Currently making an exception for Close Encounters, and will eventually for the Heroes seasons. Also ignoring the 'book' releases because of it too. Which is a shame because it hurts not owning Shawshank.

As for separation, I have my 'main' rack in alphabetical order, with almost everything. The rack to the side of it holds three separate caegories, which are TV Shows on the top shelf, anime on the 2nd, and concerts on the third.

They are in a cabinet. They are not organised in any way. I don't believe that plastic cases, pizza boxes or beabie babies qualifies as "decor"...

I have a three shelf bookcase that I just picked up for cheap that I use. DVDs alphabetical, with or without sleeves depending on the movie. Followed by my BDs alphabetical, with or without sleeves again. Followed by some books, then my TV DVDs on the bottom shelf.

I set this bookcase up when I only owned Batman Begins and The Dark Knight (BD), now I own 12 movies plus Band of Brothers so I may shuffle them around to put the BDs on the top shelf at the beginning. I literally have no room to add anymore discs though so despite just buying this thing, I either need to bail on some DVDs, books, or buy another shelving unit.

I have my DVDs and Blus currently piled up on the floor..... about 30-35 movies high, four rows deep, and probably 9 or 10 "Stacks" across.....

So yeah.... currently if I want to find a movie it's next to impossible. They are in no order whatsoever.

I just have mine in the order I bought them. And if I bought a bunch at the same time it's in the order I watched them.

I agree. They're just DVD cases, not works of art. They sit on a shelf and that's it. I don't think a single person has come in and complimented on how beautiful my blu ray boxes look as opposed to photographs hanging on the wall. It's the actual movie playing on my home theater that get's the wows.

I have a closing cabinet, so everything is alphabetical order and the slipcovers are thrown away. The only time I keep slipcovers is if the case doesn't have the name on the spine, that way I can easily find what movie it is without having to remember the nameless one.

Mine are in my theater room closet on a media storage holder. I take the slipcovers off them. Right now I have them in alphabetical order. I also display some of the cooler boxset boxes on the top of the shelving.
