Always been wondering this, but for Blu-Rays (regular and 4K) released here in North America, do the studios use Brazilian Portuguese audio if a Portuguese track is included on the disc, or do some titles have European Portuguese audio instead?
I know for a fact that Universal always uses Brazilian Portuguese audio on their discs, per the specs listed on uphe.com. And based on my research and obstute observations (correct me if I'm wrong here), it would seem that titles put out by Disney, Paramount and Warner Bros. always use Brazilian Portuguese audio, should a Portuguese track be included. Not sure about Sony, but I know some Fox titles (like FernGully, Anastasia, Rio 2) use Brazilian Portuguese. So far, the only North America Blu-Ray I have seen that uses European Portuguese audio is the 4K Blu-Ray for The LEGO Batman Movie, which also includes Brazilian Portuguese audio. If anyone could help me out here, I'd really appreciate it! |

Most of the time it's Brazilian Portuguese, as even most European BDs and theatrical releases in Portugal use Brazilian Portuguese dubbing. This stemmed back from an odd tradition where Portugal moviegoers preferred Brazilian Portuguese dubbing over local European Portuguese, largely due to quality and performance. Starting in the mid 90s with The Lion King, Portugal did dabble with local European Portuguese dubs for bigger titles and mega hits and still continue it today. But as per the weird tradition living on, they still prefer to use Brazilian Portuguese dubbing moreso than the local European type.
