If I upgrade to blu, chances are I'll get rid of the DVD. Of course if it's a special DVD I'll keep it. But the majority of the time I either:
.Donate to local library. .Give to family member. .Give to friend or friend of friend. .Donate to Goodwill. .No joke: sometimes I leave them around town. |

Naturally, I'm still keeping all the DVDs that never had Blu-Ray releases in Region-A. Most other DVDs have either been combined with their Blu-Ray/UHD editions, or shoved into binders.
Many are still worth keeping either for their extras (anything from A Knight's Tale with its few featurettes that never ported to BD, to the 4-disc Pearl Harbor set with hours of stuff you probably still can't find elsewhere), alternate cuts (extended Narnia, R-rated Pearl Harbor), different color grades (The Matrix). I also used to love hauling DVDs around when I travel, but that was back when portable DVD players were common and my laptop couldn't play BDs. That's all changed now--I can either plug in an external BD drive (maybe even UHD) or just watch digital. So I am considering purging my DVDs. I have my doubts they'll sell well online, especially if I don't have the original packaging, so I will either:

I assume you guys get rid of DVDs to free up storage space? Unfortunately I have a hoarding problem. For example, I have the Batman blu-rays but just couldn’t part with the DVDs because they have better box arts. In other instances it’s for exclusive extras, or even as silly as I’ll have a backup copy (DVD) in case my blu ray disc gets disc rot. I really want to overcome this problem but it’s so hard. Anyone else have this problem too?

We are in the process of downsizing so I have a lot of collection to get ride of.
There are still a lot of DVD's that either never got upgraded or that film/series was never released on BD. Husband wants to give all his John Wayne's and westerns to his mom and stepdad. I'm giving my sister a stack which includes Dwayne Johnson who she loves. I'm still left with old TV series that I don't have the heart to part with. |

If all on-disc content is identical between DVD and Blu-ray, I typically just get rid of the DVD, I have no need for it.
But in some cases, I’ll make my own “combo packs” with old DVDs and new Blu-ray releases. Take the Great Muppet Caper / Muppet Treasure Island two-pack that was released. The Blu-ray didn’t have all the features from previous versions of either movie, so I tossed the DVDs that came with it, and replaced them with the two “Kermit’s 50th Anniversary” DVDs of the two movies and the original pre-Disney Great Muppet Caper DVD (since it came in a case that holds four discs). There are some DVDs that I just can’t let go of though. The Lord of the Rings extended edition DVDs, for example, are just toooo nice. |

Although I feel that Blu Rays are forever,...
All my physical media is in storage. My middle daughter doesn't want me to part with it so she can inherit it and try to make something from it someday. iTunes gave me about 60 free 4K upgrades and continues to provide daily $4.99 4K titles. ... So, for the moment iTunes is my everything. When I finally learn that streaming media is the mistake I once thought it was (when that movie I love just poof vanishes) ... I may be glad I didn't sell my discs. -Brian |

Sometimes I will make it into a Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack. (Usually only if the DVD has extras the Blu-Ray doesn't have)
I sold a lot to a used movie store a few years ago, before it closed. Now there isn't really any place close by that buys used DVD's. (Except Half-Price books, but they give so little, it's usually not worth the time to even sell them there) So now I donate them to the library or goodwill. I also have a good friend close by that still collects DVD's, so I offer any DVD's to him first. |

Varies by the movie. Some blu-rays aren't as good as the DVD, they may lack extras I enjoy rewatching on occasion or the packaging isn't as cool. Hell I even enjoy watching a VHS now and then.

It depends, if I can get a decent amount, I sell them to Half Price Books.
If not I try to find somebody interested in it, then I sell it to them. If not that, then I give it to somebody. It should be noted that unless it's coming on Blu-Ray, chances are I will keep it. Especially if the item is out of print (Half Price doesn't seem to notice stuff like that). |

Got rid of some unfortunately, but now I keep them.
Changes to the movie - everything from color grading to actual changes *cough* Disney *cough* - make the DVD versions worth keeping to me. The DVD versions are the versions I'm most familiar with in most cases. Grew up watching VHS copies but was too young to start collecting. Started collecting movies with DVD. That said, I cannot abide brand new shows being released only on DVD and not Blu-ray. Likewise pretty much any new movie or TV show is naturally only a Blu-ray purchase. It's the catalog titles that I still have a fondness for the DVD versions in some cases. |
