Default EA Access will launch on PlayStation 4 in July

EA's game subscription service EA Access will launch on PlayStation 4 in July, after years as an Xbox One console exclusive. On PC, EA runs a similar program, Origin Access.

EA Access on PS4 will offer a similar big back catalogue of EA games as on Xbox, along with the same 10 hours of early access to new titles, and discounts on game or DLC purchases.

The subscription service will cost the same as on Xbox, too - either £4/$5 a month or £20/$30 a year. Presumably you'll have to buy a separate subscription for your PS4 to your Xbox, though.

Price is pretty well if you can access literally all their PS4 releases now and in future. EA are pricing this well imo. I might try it out at some point as a "rental" and finish some titles i wanted to play.

It works out at about 40p per game per year.

Interesting, as Sony originally blocked this on the basis that it wasn't good value!

The only EA game I play is BF5, so this isn't for me. Also, it's potentially a foot in the door for a subscription only gaming future, which I bet the likes of EA are probably keen on, but I'm definitely not.

I've often wondered if MS quietly paid for timed exclusivity to this service. The reasons Sony always gave for it not being on PS4 seemed like horseshit. So why suddenly now is it OK for EA to put it on the PS4?

Unfortunately, EA have not been doing very well as of late. In fact, they recently made a large portion of their staff redundant. I have not been a fan of EA for a long long time now and I do not see them maturing any further so I will not be going ahead with the subscription. I much preferred THQ.

I’ve used the service on Xbox.

It’s alright but I dunno what EA has in store for games other than sports games in the future. The back catalog is filled with em. So if ya like sports games, you’ll like this service.

Respawn & BioWare are the only Studios trying to put out quality games.

Also what about their tiered plans? PC has Premium Access. Is the basic sub gonna be the only option?

My son recently said to me "So EA just makes shooters and sports games?"

At fist I thought no, that's not right, they're a huge company!

Then I looked at their list of current and upcoming games. Yup. That's about right.
