Default Panasonic TH-42PZ80U

I have been using these settings that I got from tweaktv.com. I have been using them for about a month for watching both TV and Bluray. I don't know that they are perfect, but I think they create a pretty great picture. If nothing else it is a good starting point. If you have a 46PZ80U or 50PZ80U they adjust the picture up 5 for each, but everything else stays the same.

Picture Mode = Standard
Picture = +65 (46PZ80U = +70) & (50PZ80U = +75)
Brightness = +53
Color = +45
Tint = -6
Sharpness = +50
Color Temp = Warm
Color Management = Off
XV Color = Off
Video NR = Off
Mpeg NR = Off
Black Level = Light
HD Size = Size #1

I got this same set. Why the Sharpness and color so low. Im not bashing, just curious because i want my set to look the best and i might give it a try. Also where can i get one of the calibration disks?
Color is probably so low because the vivid setting blows out the colors by default, especially reds and yellows.

Sharpness is so low because the panel Alpha-IPS panel in this TV is MEGA SHARP and needs to be set well into the negatives, otherwise everything starts to look cracked and dry.

I'd put that sharpness up a bit. That seems a little too low, even for this crazy sharp TV.

Here are my settings, all calibrated by my eyeballs.

Mode: custom/normal

Backlight: 10
Picture: 16
Brightness: Usually set at -8, will sometimes turn it up though, depending on the material. +8 gives the best grayscale response with a test page, but with actual video material, -8 gives inkier blacks without usually sacrificing any noticeable grayscale.

Color: -1 for Blu-ray, 0 for DVD
Tint: Depends on the video material. Usually It stays at 0, but some content has weird color levels that require adjustment.

Sharpness: -11
Color Temp: Normal
AI Picture (dynamic contrast): ON
Black Level: Light

any settings I left out are always off.

Default Panasonic TH-50PZ850u

TV Model Number: Panasonic TH-50PZ850u
Weather it's an ISF Calibrated setting or Disc calibrated setting: DVE-HD
What Input Connection this setting is used for? (ex. HDMI, Component, Composite etc): HDMI
What device is connected? (dvd player, bluray player, cable tv ..etc): Panasonic BD35 passed through a Denon 3808CI receiver
What kind of room lighting you have? (dark, dim, bright etc): Dark to dim
Any key features that are turned on or that should be turned off: See below

I only calibrated my grayscale following the curtpalme process. I used a DVE-BD disc, the HCFR software, and my Eye1Display2. I ended up with a 2.19 average Gamma and a 1524:1 contrast. I did not touch any service menu settings.

This is what I came up with:

Picture

Picture Mode: Custom
Picture: 63
Brightness: 51
Color: 40
Tint: 0
Sharpness: 40
Color Temp: Warm
Color Mgmt: Off
DCC: On
CATS: Off

Pro Settings

Panel Brightness: Mid
Contour Emphasis: Off
Gamma adjust: Mid
Black extension: 0
W/B high R: 31
W/B high B: 27
W/B low R: -9
W/B low B: 3
AGC: Off

Advanced picture

Video NR: Off
Block NR: Off
Mosquito NR: On
Black Level: Light
3:2 pulldown: On
HD Size: Size 2

Out of curiousity, do you leave the 3:2 pulldown on watching blu's

I will give them a try and see how they look on my setup.

Thanks.

You know, I never really thought about it. My BD player is sending a 24p signal, so the 3:2 should not be kicking in, right?

When you set the tv to 24p I think it automatically takes it off. I don't notice any flicker either in 24p mode

By the way I tried your settings and I like them a lot.

Thanks

Sharpness at 75 in THX mode is not the same as sharpness 75 on Custom. The closest setting would be around 30 i believe.

I noticed this when i had a pattern from the THX optimizer on T2. There was serious noise on the patern with sharpness above 30 and on thx with sharpness at 75 it wasn't so bad.

Hey guys, I need help...

Best Buy came over and did a calibration on my tv - and I think it looks too bright and not "natural" which I thought was the point of calibration...maybe I'm wrong, but I need your thoughts and opinions to make me feel better about it....Here's my info

I have a 42" 1080P Panasonic Plasma TV - model TH-42PZ80U

here's the custom settings he put on it:

Picture +100
Brightness +55
Color +43
Tint 0
Sharpness +60
Color temp. Warm

Please give me your thoughts about the settings the geek squad calibrated on my tv

Thanks

Can you tell us what did the Geek Squad used to calibrate your tv? I don't think that setting Picture in 100 would be the most accurate. Also Sharpness, in High Definition Movies or Transmission it should be way down. I calibrated my tv with the THZ glasses and the special feature it comes in some blu-rays and dvds and my setting are as follow

Custom Mode:
Picture: 60
Brightnss: 41
Color: 43
Tint: -9
Sharpness: 0

Of course these aren't the best settings and I would like to think that the Geek Squad used way better technology to calibrate it but they seem off.

I'm very very sure you're not getting the most accurate reproduction in your tv, but if you like it then cool. In my opinion I would start by changing from Vivid mode to Custom, or Cinema or something like that, it varies on the brand. Vivid will give you very bright colors but the least accurate. Secondly, change the temperrature from cool to warm or at least neutral. I would turn down sharpness but that won't be as dramatic as he other options. And by changing Vivid you will have to turn up brightness.

Just giving my opinion, and if you ask around in here to some experienced users I'm sure they will tell ou the same.

I was thinking the same thing. Changing to Custom and Warm is a good start. Vivid is by far the least accurate picture setting, no matter what you change the Contrast and Brightness to.

If you like how it looks now though, cool.
