After Hours (1985) coming from Criterion

Just saw this on reddit.

In a recent post discussing After Hours, a contributor for The Projection Booth podcast confirmed (via participants involved in the forthcoming release) that Criterion will release After Hours sometime this year.

If you doubt the source, Joseph McBride revealed on a recent Projection Booth episode that Criterion would be releasing The Other Side of the Wind, so I would argue that their credibility is very strong.

This news makes my year. Along with many people in this sub, After Hours has been my most wanted release for a long time, and I cannot express how happy I am for it to be getting released by Criterion, let alone finally on Blu-ray.

Have never understood the love affair with this one. Pretty bizarre film that never establishes any kind of rhythm or flow, IMO.

I agree with you Akijima, I myself have been clamoring for this release for years now and it's finally a reality. I just dread the possible upcoming discussion of compression issues, color correction, etc.

This is on the low end of Scorsese's films for me, but one thing I can say about Scorsese is he's never made a dull, uninteresting film, including this one.

Indeed. Scorsese has never made a bad film. Some are better than others, but all of them are either just good/worth your time, to very good, to great, to all-time great. There are no true duds.

I've heard rumors for some time that Criterion also has "Mean Streets". But seeing as I already have "Mean Streets" twice on blu ray (the French Carlotta release is great and loaded with features; and I have the bare bones US version from Warner), I'm much more excited to get "After Hours". Would love to get "Bringing Out the Dead", as well.

Nice! One of Scorsese's most underrated movies and one of the most conspicuously absent titles on the format – along with Bringing Out the Dead – glad Criterion's releasing this one (and it would be amazing if they did BOTD as well! )!
