Glad to see this stuff on Blu!

I like Trek, but certainly not a Trekkie.

That said, I have always been frustrated by the MSRP on Star Trek sets. $300 range for DVD versions of TNG is just insane.

So, 6 movies for $110. That is a very good price (unfortunately, I only like 3 of the movies). It will likely be easy to find in the $75 range somewhere which makes for an easy purchase.

The TV series I am having a much harder time with. I find that DVD sets are fianlly coming down into reasonable price teritory (about $20/season). Blu movies are starting to come down into a reasonable pricepoint, but TV series are not. I would probably pay about $30-$40 per season ($100-$125 for the series). So this is a easy pass (unless it's put on mega-sale somewhere). As prices continue to drop, I would hope Trek starts to be most appropriately priced (but I am not holding my breath given the cost of the DVD sets...)

Each season on DVD originally retailed for $100, so you'd have paid $700 to have the entire TNG series as they released. Not sure what they go for now, but I did get the DS9 seasons as they released back then.

On Amazon right now, ST-TNG complete DVD set has a list price of $455.95 and is available for $326.99.

I would probably pay $25/season max (preferably $20/season). I think there were 7 seasons (so $140-$175 would be a decent price by current stadards)...

I'm totally psyched for Trek Blu-Rays. Will get TOS 1; very likely the movie set.

To those who think VOY, TNG, DS9 are doomed to never be in HD, please read:

Yeah but they only talk about TNG - Jeff Kleist in the insiders column has said it is extremely unlikely that DS9 or VOy will ever make it to HD and TNG is looking more iffy these days

Its about half way down
Thanks for the link. I can't say I'm surprised. I never bought the DVD sets of either anyway. I should do that if they ever drop the price.

I have all of the Star Trek shows on oldray DVD (except for the animated series). The PQ is very good on all of them. Next Generation, however, is somewhat "soft" (a tad blurry, even when upconverted). Amassing all of the shows on oldray DVD (Star Trek, Next Generation, Voyager and Deep Space Nine) was quite an investment. But my love for the franchise made these shows "must haves" in my video collection.

Although I have the ST motion pictures on oldray DVD (they were upgrades from the original VHS releases!), I will definitely buy them on blu-ray. I doubt that I will upgrade any of the ST series to BD.

Season 1 of TOS I will definitely get, since they have both versions on them.

As for the movies, the only ones in my collection are 1 and 6. And since both of them are the original theatrical cuts (I'd let it slide for 6, but the directors cut that Wise did for part 1 REALLY improves what I always saw as an underrated movie), I think I want to hold off for when they are available individually and have the extended cuts in them. I know WRATH OF KHAN is also in the same situation, so I know this will happen eventually. So for now, pass.

Too bad they aren't released individually at this time. I don't want to double dip...for a third time if some of the director's cuts are not there. Besides some of the SDVD ones aren't too bad. I can deal with those at the moment.

I am definitely keep an eye on TOS series though. I never actually bought them on DVD.

HA! I'm happy I didn't buy any movie or series in DVD! Day 1 buy for me for the movies (TOS maybe), and day 1 buy for TNG and DS9 too (hopefully Andromeda too)

I would imagine that Paramount is releasing the same blu-ray version of first season TOS as they did for HD DVD, which I have. They remastered the show from the original 35mm negative and inserted NEW CGI footage for the space shots, front view screen, etc. They did a good job and it is interesting to compare it with the standard DVD version that was released several years ago. I am looking forward to getting seasons two and three on blu.

You should read the announcements. The Blu-ray will include the original effects as well as the new CGI.

Does anyone know what the deal is the MSRP is on both the Trek film sets and TOS S1? I've looked up pre-orders for both, at amazon and DVD Empire and they're all over the place. They're not even close to the MSRP's The Digital Bits reported in the official announcements:

Star Trek : TOS season 1
------------------------
The Digital Bits and DVD Empire - $118
Amazon - $129.99

Star Trek films 1-6
------------------------
The Digital Bits - $104.99
Amazon - $139.99
DVD Empire - $168.00

Star Trek films 3 pk.
------------------------
The Digital Bits - $48.99
Amazon - $65.99
DVD Empire - $78.00

Ok, so I guess Amazon's price of $98 for the 6 movies is the cheapest right now:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance

Comes out to about $16 and change for each which isn't too bad. Any idea of possibility this might go down before release date on Amazon or somewhere else?

I preordered the six-ST movie set last night from Amazon.

Don't forget:
When you order blu-ray discs from Amazon, click-through blu-ray.com to link to Amazon when you buy your movies. This is how we can support this excellent web site.

I loved the Next generation but the picture was always poor
It would have to be a major repair job for me to buy it.

Did he say why or do you have the link to his post? To be honest, I'm not really interested in DS9 or Voyager but just curious why they wouldn't be released on blu-ray.
