Default Is this a good deal at circuit city?

I went to a circuit city last night right before they were closing up. They had 3 Denon AVR889's for 479.99 and 1 Onkyo 706 for 479.99 as well. I dunno if the Onkyo will still be there when I get off of work but I just couldn't pull the trigger without seeing prices elsewhere. I heard on here an awesome Pioneer receiver is coming out in May with some impressive specs for around 400 bucks. And I can easily wait (well not that easily) knowing the new receivers are a couple months away. Anyone have experience with these receivers listed? And the pricing, is it a steal or not that great? I saw on Amazon those Denons are like 800 bucks so I feel like jumping on it. But I have an Onkyo and I hear Denon's aren't so user friendly. I have a Universal remote so I could care less if the remote on either are difficult. Could use some input on people who have these and or shopped these before. And would you wait for that Pioneer to come out, or is it not that impressive? Thanks guys!

This will probably get moved to the off topic discussion forum, but take a look here. Point being that those prices are now competetive with what you can get on line.

EDIT: And you get to take advantage of hours or research that I did

You're not going to find that Denon for anywhere near that price, even online. I have that receiver and it is amazing and it's not nearly as difficult to set up as people make it seem.

I could've paid $700 for that receiver and I would've been happy.

I have a Harmony One remote and it controls the receiver 100%. The remote that comes with the receiver is horrible.

Hey dubldown what speakers are you pushing with it? Thanks for the input by the way. And where are you guys seeing these for that cheap? Amazon has em for like 800 bucks and I checked shopzilla and the cheapest is 560.

Circuit City is liquidating, so everything is 'discounted' I got basically my entire new audio setup from them this month, paid $560 for my Onkyo 706, I didn't want to wait and risk it not being there, they only had two then

yea i know that 706 was 479.99 when i went. 1 left last night, I almost jumped on it. But I think I'm waiting till april for the Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K cus that thing sounds like a beast for around 500 bucks. Do you guys think I shouldn't wait for any good specific reason? I might see if they still have the Onkyo tonight.

you mean the 1019 I was thinking about waiting for the 1019 myself, but I am just impatient. Overall I am happy with my 706 though

Yes sorry 1019! And yea thats the same boat I'm in. I never believe to wait on tech because something better will always come out if you wait. But knowing it's only like a month away makes me wanna wait. And I'm glad you are happy with it. I personally love Onkyo. I worked for circuit city back in the day (5 or 6 yrs ago) and bought my Onkyo 602 through an accommodation discount. They make great receivers. But something about that new Pioneer keeps compelling me to wait.

I have a 7.1 set up right now with mixed speakers:

Center, surrounds and sub are Athena Audition series speakers (sub is 12" front firing)
Fronts are Sony 4 ways (2 8" woofers, 1 5 1/4" mid and 1" tweeter in each tower)
Rear speakers are sony 2 way bookshelfs

What I love about the Denon 889 is after I did the setup, it read I had large fronts and a large center and it allows some bass through them but the low end and big bass stuff goes through the sub. My old Yamaha 5890 really sent more through the sub and everything sounded very "boomy" if that makes sense. The Denon really separates the sounds and everything sounds much more crisp.
