United Kingdom Ghosts (BBC 2019)

In a time when sitcoms come with large doses of misery it's nice to see one that has no ambitions beyond being funny. The joke rate is high and if one fails there's another in a moment. From the team behind the excellent Horrible Histories, a young couple inherit a grand country house only to find it's falling apart and full of ghosts. Owing more than a little to The Ghosts Of Motley Hall, the characters are well written and acted. Hope there's a second series

Last episode on BBC1 Monday 9.30pm and series on iPlayer. No sign of a disc release yet

Seems to be DVD only https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ghosts-DVD/...gateway&sr=8-1 A pity, all the reviews have been favourable and I think a blu would sell well

Here's a longer clip

Really liked the plague girl. It's the first comedy I've seen in years that has so much going on that a second viewing is even more enjoyable. Detectorists was probably the last comedy I really liked (still not available on blu), had high hopes Don't Forget The Driver would be good but it centred on a grim plot about about human trafficking which robbed it of any humour (apart from a chase through a model village)

Show has only had one season on TV and CBS is already doing a American version... along with an American version of James Acaster's show that never made it past the pilot.

Season 2 is just as much fun as the first. Favourite episode: The Thomas Thorne Affair. Still no blu ray

Glad this is back; it's my favourite comedy show in quite a while. Trying not to race through all of the new episodes. I've watched 2 so far.

Not got around to the UK (original) yet, accidentally fell upon the US version first. I hope the arrow through the neck is done better in the UK version, the guy in the US version moves his head a lot and it's VERY clear the arrow isn't even attached too his neck.

United Kingdom Ghosts: Series Four (UK version)

The new, fourth series of Ghosts continues on BBC One this coming Friday night (at 8.30 pm - 9 pm). On and off, I've been thinking about checking out this series. When watching various other shows, you don't get round to checking out new (to you) shows. Have been hearing positive things about the UK series.

All six episodes of the current, fourth series were made available on the BBC iPlayer last Friday (the same day it started premiering on BBC One, 23rd September, 2022). All four series to date of the UK version of Ghosts are available on the BBC iPlayer via Sky's Catch-up service.

That is correct yes, but my post was about the BBC One airings. Have edited my previous post, adding that all six episodes of the fourth series were made available on the BBC iPlayer last Friday.

Usually I make sure I have my posts correct. This was one of the occasions where that didn't happen. No one is perfect.

If anyone is on the fence regarding this programme, I would highly recommend watching it.

Often very funny (the episode with the ghost falling out of the window every morning still being my favourite), the characters are now so well drawn that, with last Friday's episode, the moment at the end with them all looking up at the stars, reduced me to tears. There is no finer recommendation for a comedy when it can make you laugh out loud (8 and 6 not 86!) and reduce you to tears in the same episode.

Although no one could ever match the master at that pathos (John Sullivan), I feel the programme is starting to reach higher and higher as it continues.

Also, apothecary. There, it's easy to say it!

I was surprised that the new season in the UK used a storyline from season 1 of the US version. I wonder if they had been planning it already or if they decided to borrow from it once they saw the early US footage, since the creators are all writers in the UK and executive producers for the US.

Going to sample sometime soon an episode or two each of both the UK and US versions of Ghosts (the latter has been airing on BBC Three recently and episodes are available on the BBC iPlayer on at least Sky's On Demand service).

Season five will be the last. Sad as I am to see one of the best sitcoms end, I suppose it's better than it going on too long.

For those of you that have Paramount Plus but not MAX (like me), seasons 3 & 4 of this show are now on Paramount Plus.
