Default Affiliates...

Good chance I've posted this in the wrong section - but can someone post a good source or thread that explains film/tv studios' affiliates/subsidiaries etc... (ex Disney/Buena Vista/ABC/ESPN).

Thx...

Haven't seen any replies to this... Can anyone help? Is there a list, or site that explains affiliates?

I just don't understand how (for ex.) Fox can do a video, with WB as well? Does stuff like that have to do with one studio produces, another distributes?

Also, which studio, at the end of the day, makes the most money?

Thx!

When you research the ownership of TV networks and movie studios you find that about 6 conglomerates own nearly everything. This is in large part why we have so many cable channels, a company like Disney can force a cable company to carry ESPNU and ESPN Classic if they want to carry ESPN.

I'll focus on the TV side, sure to be some omissions.

Disney:
ABC channels, ESPN channels, Disney Channels

Viacom:
Comedy Central, LOGO, BET, MTV, VH1, Spike, Nickelodeon Channels

CBS was spun off from Viacom into it's own company in 2005. This included Showtime and half of the CW. Both companies are controlled by Summer Redstone's National Amusement, although he is having serious money problems so that could change.

GE largely owns NBC which includes the Weather Channel, CNBC, MSNBC.

Time Warner:
TV: CW (half), TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, CNN, HBO, Cinemax, truTV (formerly Court TV)

Comcast: E!, Style, G4, Golf Channel, Versus, Comcast Sports Net

In 2004 Comcast tried to buy Disney for $66 billion but was turned down.

News Corp: Fox channels, My Network TV, FX, Speed, Fuel TV, Big Ten Network (49%), National Geographic (67%)

Liberty Media: Starz, Encore, QVC, GSN (50%)

These are the main owners of most TV channels. A few channels are independent (HSN, NFL Network) but those are the exception.
