Default The Perfection (Netflix)

I thought there was a thread for this? Wow this was a pretty great horror thriller that was pretty unpredictable. Where you think it is heading, it is not and it takes some great turns. You also question who you root for throughout, with your allegiances shifting.

The finale gets absolutely ridiculous but in a good way, and the last minute is just hilarious. Great performances from the cast, the only thing i did not care for is how the rewind flashbacks were presented. The first time they used the technique it was fine but it did not work when it was used again later in the movie, and there's a rewind to an expository scene that is not needed at all. Other than that though, well worth checking out.

One point though finally:
[Show spoiler]It did seem that getting her to cut her own hand off was still insanely drastic and that just drugging her, kidnapping her and then talking to her for an extended period of time might have achieved the same effect. They even had that unnecessary flashback to show that Lizzie didn't mind that she had been manipulated to cut her own hand off, as if to get Charlotte off the hook. Thinking about it after the fact though, i mean if she did feel that mutilation as the only way, why not just get her to cut off her thumb? She would struggle to be a competent player without that and it would have probably achieved the same result (getting booted out of the academy).

There's a lot worthy of discussion with this movie.

Saving it for my horror marathon, I'm really looking forward to it though.

Best way I'd describe it is as a "Big swing and a miss"; I'm all for a gross and icky revenge/horror thriller but it feels over explained + lacks any real polish. Would be down for Allison Williams becoming a Scream Queen tho between this and Get Out, however.

I liked the first act, but, similar to the Babysitter, another Netflix Original, it just seems that they're playing too silly with the material. If they could've tightened up the tone, this could've been a very effective thriller. But the gonzo approach doesn't work with it for me...

As a contrast, i loved how silly and daft it all got. The finale was great, with the movie going a lot further than i thought it was. I do think some stuff was over explained so i certainly agree with that criticism.

I also don't think
[Show spoiler] that it needed the wig reveal at the end. It didn't add anything and the short hair wig looked so bad!

I watched it right away when it hit Netflix. I'd been told to avoid trailers and was successful so I went in pretty blind. I thought it was mostly great. The first twist and ending were awesome but I was expecting more twists than that from what I'd heard. I also really wanted it to be longer. It's too short and should have been fleshed out more. But other than that it's well-made and fun and Ashley Williams was great.

8/10

This movie felt like the director wanted to make a Chan-wook Park style suspense thriller (a la The Handmaiden) but failed miserably. The Perfection is all gimmickry, with corny pull-the-rug-out-from-under-you-twists and some over-the-top gore to make up for a dumb and implausible storyline.

I saw a headline or first paragraph on SlashFilm a couple months ago simply saying don't watch the trailer for The Perfection and just enjoy when it comes out. So I stopped reading there and was happily reminded when I saw it appear on Netflix.
(My goodness, what is with their trailers and giving so much away? There was Gerald's Game, then Velvet Buzzsaw, then this, and I'm sure plenty in-between.)

Netflix has set a standard for themselves of having movies that feel slightly under-baked. They practically have their own feel in this way at this point, and this fell in with that. But it was also really enjoyable. By Netflix movie standards, I thought this was great and entertaining.

It’s possible to watch more than one film.

True. And I watched both. There’s a lot of films and a finite amount of life. Why would anybody want to see a C level, poor mans Chan-wook Park when you can just watch that. Just my opinion.

Respectfully, telling people to not watch something is not an opinion at all, rather it is a command.

I doubt when I’m on my deathbed or if I collapse and die or get hit by a truck, I will have any regrets about the time I spent watching this Netflix film.

And again I watched it as well... and don’t regret it it’s whatever. It’s a comment, review... my opinion. So when you read movie reviews you must be because the presumptive belief that their bad reviews are “commanding you” when they say don’t see it, it’s a waste of time or read the book instead. That’s how people express opinions about movies especially remakes or imitators. (Ehh don’t watch the MTV Skins, the UK one is way better). I think that’s kinda silly. It’s a comment. But each their own, respectfully it isn’t a big deal to me. I don’t really care to discuss the movie further lol so if people are actually miffed or peeved by my one line review i apologize.

My opinion is This movie is a poor riff on The Handmaiden and Park style movies. That’s all. I don’t expect anybody to read my comment and feel “commanded”.

Edit: no need to reply. Go back to discussing the actual film. Even if I’m not a fan, no movie deserves to have its thread derailed by negativity. Cheers.

This was one of the more enjoyable Netflix originals I'd seen in a while.

I know right? It'd be like someone spending time owning and watching City of Angels on Blu-ray, and not the vastly superior original Wings of Desire.

Oh wait..
