Default HD audio compat. recievers + 24/1080p video passthrough (uncompressed)

I was going to get the Onkyo 606 or 706 (<---side note: why would I want to spend an extra $100 for the 706?) but with all these CC deals I've decided to go to a bunch of CC this Thursday and just get whatever they have as long as it supports lossless audio from my PS3. I just wanted to...

a) make sure that all of these units will pull the audio from HDMI & not touch my video sinal (full passthrough)

and

b) Is there something to look for besides just the HD audio icons on the box to make sure that it will work appropriately and at least decent?

lastly

c) If I'm using a PS3 do I actually need to get a reciever that supports DTS-HD and TRUE HD? I know that the PS3 digitally decodes the audio for you, and I doubt that my Digital Cable or regular DVDs/Xbox 360 games will be supporting HD audio. What do you think?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I know that it was suggested to get a receiver that can decode HD audio just in case one of your components doesn't. It definitely doesn't hurt to get one.
