Not sure if there is already a thread about this, but I noticed something funny when I was watching the first episode of Agents of SHIELD for this season over the weekend. Towards the end of the episode, some agents are outside a Museum, and the building was the same one they use for the establishing shots of the main building for the show Parks and Rec.
The scene in AOS was meant to take place in Indiana, so it must have been an inside joke since P&R takes place there, but it looks like the actual building is probably in California since I could see some Mountains in the background. (Also, missed opportunity for a Chris Pratt cameo). It got me thinking about what other buildings were used multiple times in different shows/movies. I'm not talking about famous ones like The Empire State Building and such, but more "regular" buildings used for different purposes in movie scenes. The Biltmore Estates (in North Carolina) is a popular one, used in movies like Hannibal and Richie Rich. I also noticed an episode of Seinfeld used a quick shot of the same firehouse used from The Ghostbusters films. Any others? |

Yeah. There's footage of a dam bursting in one of the Superman movies. I think this became or always was stock footage, because I saw the same scene used in the 80's Knight Rider tv show. I'm sure it has appeared elsewhere also.

A few off the top of my head.
The building at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark, where Indy meets Marion on the steps, is not in Washington, D.C. but is actually San Francisco City Hall. The same lobby and stairs can be seen in some of the Dirty Harry movies, I believe most noticeably The Enforcer, when Harry storms out of the press conference. The Canfield-Moreno Estate in Los Angeles was used as the private school in Halloween H20 and the director's mansion at the end of Scream 3. Also, while the firehouse seen in the Ghostbusters movies is real, it was only used for exteriors. The interiors were actually filmed in a similarly-designed firehouse in Los Angeles, which was also used as the auto repair shop in The Mask, Egg Shen's office in Big Trouble In Little China and a variety of other films. I saw it used in an episode of The A-Team as well. |

Good one, Rzzzz. Greystone Mansion was so cool to visit in person several years ago after having seen it in so many things. I think the first for me was The Golden Child. You can't get inside but you can walk all around the grounds and in the courtyard.

Another one I remembered. Kristen Parker's house in A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 4 was also used for a crime scene in The Glimmer Man. I also spotted it in another movie recently but can't recall what.

Not multiple movies, but I just filmed a Short with some people in a house that was used in Booksmart, the Murder Mystery house. It was also right next door to the season 1 American Horror Story House!

There is a foyer in a hotel in San Francisco that was used in a few 70's movies. Most notably the foyer of the Towering Inferno and for many scenes in Mel Brooks High Anxiety. It is such an iconic foyer with beautiful lifts ascending an amazing interior atrium.
As a boy for Australia raised on movies it was one of the first sights I went to see when I visited San Fran and I was very impressed. I can see why it was used so much. It was quite a treat to ride one of the elevators. I know that's such a stupid thing to geek out about but that's what the love of film does to you. I think it has been in one or two more movies from that era but I can't remember the names. |

One of the better known ones is the Sherman Oaks Galleria mall, used in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Commando and Chopping Mall, amongst others.
![]() Another is Dunsmuir House in Oakland, CA, used in Phantasm, Burnt Offerings, A View to a Kill, So I Married an Axe Murderer and The Vineyard. ![]() |

My advice would be to NEVER go to the Galleria and just remember it as it was on screen in the '80s. It definitely doesn't look like that anymore. It's pretty depressing. |
