Despite being a fan of the comics and the previous two movies, I skipped this one in theaters due to the previews looking pretty awful. Thus, I'll be going into this one blind. That said, I have to say *all* those cover/steelbook graphics look pretty great and it's going to be tough deciding which one I'll wind up picking up.

If that Walmart version has the same art underneath, I'll absolutely pick it up. Blind buy, of course. Haha

I love the Mignola art on the BB steel book. I'll probably try to rent it first somewhere, since reviews dissuaded me from seeing it in the theater.

I know they're not always the best, but the site review is up.

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Hellb...240807/#Review

Seems like a really good disc if Jeffrey is right. That featurette doc sounds nice too. Was hoping he'd have detailed the deleted scenes though.

This movie is just terrible. My god The soundtrack/score is loud and obnoxious hellboy is such a whiny ***** in this movie its insufferable. Professor Broom is done terrible in this movie just basically telling Hellboy to grow a pair and stop whining every few seconds.

If your blind buying this wait for it to be 5-10 bucks unless you have to have an exclusive. Just stick to the superior Perlman/Del-Toro Flims

I just finished watching the Blu-ray release. My first time seeing this movie despite being a long time fan of the comic and the previous two movies.

I’ll start off saying this movie isn’t as terrible as some have claimed, but it’s not great and utterly lacks the charm, child-like joy and heart of the previous two movies despite including a *lot* of unique stuff and minor characters from the comics. Aside from desperately missing Del Toro’s crucial touch, the casting especially for Hellboy and Professor Broom isn’t a patch on Perlman and Hurt. And the makeup for Hellboy (which doesn’t seem consistant through the movie) just does not work anymore than the rubber suit for Ben Grimm/The Thing in the 2 lousy Fantastic Four movies. The supporting BPRD “agents” are poor substitues for Abe Sapien and Liz Sherman in the previous films and completely lack the chemistry as foils for Hellboy.

What does work is some of the aforementioned bits and characters scattered through the movie from various Hellboy comics stories. The Warthog Gru and especial the recounting of it’s original encounter with Hellboy briefly recalls the best of Mike Mignola’s short stories. Other bits like the witch in the chicken leg house, not so much. The hard R rated CGI gore is mostly of video game quality that really doesn’t fit with the comics but imo, doesn’t really detract either. The dialog uneccesarily throws in a lot of cussing as if it needed it to guarantee an R rating.

The Atmos audio mix seems really off to my ears. The center channel which features mostly dialog sounds weirdly compressed or “boxy” and too low compared to the other channels. Every time a rock music track pops up (which is almost non-stop), the tune overpowers everything and seems especially prominent in the rear channels.

Among the extras, the 3 bonus scenes aside from the color version of the b/w pre-credits scene are pretty worthless. The features on the production go to great lengths especially with Mignola’s comments to emphasize this “new” take on the character.

The blu-ray menu ranks up there with the original X-Files tv series blu-ray menu as one of the harder menus to visually read and know what you’re selecting.

What are the A/V specs. Sometimes VVS doesn't carry over the ATMOS/7.1 mix of the US studio..

Hopefully they kept the Making Of..

Yeah the ATMOS carried over.

What do you think about the cover art?

Just got back from Walmart (gotta love Midnight Blu-ray shopping) and this was $17.96; both Target and Best Buy have it at $19.99. Wasn't planning on picking it up until I saw that price. Good to see a Blu-ray new release that low again.

I didn't mind the movie that much, and figured I'll get some mileage out of it before Black Friday to justify buying it now rather than waiting. And technically it was free anyways after discounts and gift cards were applied.

I picked up the Canadian Blu-Ray DVD Combo and it doesn't have the ATMOS/7.1 track. It just has a 5.1 Dolby True HD track.

@rgray_69 Not surprising from VVS Films, majority of their Blu-ray releases are just Dolby TrueHD 5.1 regardless if it originally got 7.1, Atmos, or DTS:X sound elsewhere.

Guys, I'm going to rent this Blu-ray at Redbox today, since I've heard a lot of bad things about this film. Wish me the best of luck with this one, I hope it'll at least be a "fun cheesy " flick and not just plain trash in general like most claim it to be.

Did the Redbox blu-ray have the atmos track?

I rented it from Redbox a week back, it had Atmos and the special features. Seemed like the standard "in stores" disc.

Just got round to watching this... Absolutely terrible, I'm a fan of David Harbour through Stranger Things, so definitely wanted to like this. Also quite attracted to Milla but this movie really does suck all the way from beginning to end. King Arthur legend for some reason never goes over well and they started the film with that which I couldn't give a crap about. Hellboy should have a very distinctive voice to go with that look and David just sounds like a normal guy. A lot more I don't like about it such as the entire soundtrack, which doesn't do the film justice at any point and feels random and serves absolutely no scene at all. Way to many new characters to the point That I lack the ability to care even with the flashbacks they don't develop anyone it's just all in your face intros. Ian is a great actor but again I just don't care. Gets a 1.5 out of 5 Stars... Hellboy should be an ongoing series for AMC or maybe Amazon or Netflix. Maybe get Sam Raimi or something. I was a fan of the comic and the Del Toro version even though it was quite a bit different. This one isn't even really worth a single viewing, not even free on T.V. when bored and channel surfing. Ranks up there with Buried.
