For some reason, I thought this was already on Blu-ray, but I looked it up and was shocked to find out it's not. I haven't seen it since middle school, but I remember liking it fine. I'll likely be buying this for my animation collection. I love that they used the original poster art and not a cheap commission job. What supplements does the current DVD have? Sounds like those will be transferred over along with a new retrospective featurette.

Quite surprising this will be released digitally in 4K as well!

Check off another title from Sony's list of movies that needed upgrading from a pan-and-scan DVD.

It looks like it just had some games and a sing-along. Wishful thinking, they'll also port over the "Eternity" music video from the Turner VHS.
I also wonder if this prototype of "Far Longer Than Forever" still exists uncut:

Thumbs up

Woah! Surprise release. Did not expect this one to ever come out. I still have it on VHS, not the greatest thing in the world but the art style and the music were nice enough. Should look gorgeous on Blu-ray. Will most likely buy it down the road later on.

More important, between this and the DreamWorks catalog releases earlier this year, now Fox and Warner Bros. have absolutely NO excuses anymore to not release "Titan A.E." and "Cats Don't Dance" on Blu-ray at once.

Damn I wrote this in on the Sony 4K release survey. Ill probably stick to the blu since I'm strictly a physical media guy.

Interestingly, someone on YouTube obtained a "Collector's Edition" VHS, and ripped this ~30-minute documentary from it.

Looking forward to getting this but find it very strange for Sony to be releasing this on Blu-ray yet they want to release the recent movies only on digital??? The last movie, A Royal MyZtery, only got a DVD release (on DVD-R) due to overwhelming demand for a physical copy.

The film... really isn't very good (and, I mean, such a gorgeous animated film could be made from Swan Lake even if they didn't want to keep the tragic ending), but I have some childhood affection for it, especially the score (the opening sung sequence is one of the better attempts at pulling off a "Belle" style sung opening). Had no idea there was an earlier version of Far Longer than Forever (Forever in my Heart?) At any rate, it's probably one of the better of the Disney musical fairy tale clones, though that's not saying much... At least it's better than Rich's followup the animated King and I

(Random fact, the lyrics are by David Zippel who has a long musical theatre resume and would work with Menken on the great Hercules scores, but I always wondered who the F the composer, Lex de Azevedo, was... Turns out he's a composer of Mormon musicals. Director Richard Rich's company of course was set up to make Christian/Mormon entertainment, at least in part so it makes sense).

And yes, why isn't Titan AE on BD??

I had the exact same thought. I wish Disney could have made Swan Lake in the same style as Sleeping Beauty.

Yes, and again adapting Tchaikovsky's music. Ah well.

Ditto; I've even seen the second and third movies.

John Musker and Ron Clements almost directed a Swan Lake movie instead of Aladdin, but they thought the former story seemed too similar to The Little Mermaid.

Three things:

1. I don’t consider it a great movie, but I have a soft spot for it and don’t mind putting it on once in a while.

2. I have no plans to see any of the sequels in my lifetime.

3. This movie manages to not only get a Blu-Ray but a 4K HDR transfer as well (albeit on digital only).

Best hope for Titan AE will be if Disney releases it as a DMC exclusive

Just compared the old dvd with the iTunes version, it appears the “pan and scan” version is actually the full frame of the animation. The widescreen version is the way to go because there are cels on the edges of the frame that aren’t viewable in the widescreen.
