Default Help- Samsung TV, BOSE 321- WHat Blue Ray

Hello - I am in need of alot of assistance here. I recently purchased the Samsung LN46A650 television (1080P), I already have a BOSE 3-2-1 series II and a digital motorolla cable box. In order to get the best viewing experience, I want to add a Blue Ray player. Since I have a Samsung TV, I thought I might buy a samsung blue ray player so I only use one remote. Is this a bad idea? None of my equipment is hooked up yet, installer is coming on Saturday. Any suggestions on which player I should get and how this should be connected to achieve optimal viewing and sound. Thank you in advance - WILL

From what I read, the Samsung blu-ray players have alot of issues. I would go with a ps3 or if you want a stand alone go for the Sony 250 or 550 or the panasonic 35 or 55

I already have a PS2, I thought about getting the PS3 then heard that it is not backward compatible and I can't afford to go out and get a bunch of new games.

Will,
I'd go with either the PS3 or the Sony 550 for my choice in a Blu-ray player.
As far as hook-up goes, and I don't know too much about Bose products, try to stay away from them if I can, I'm pretty sure you'd want to run HDMI from your cable box to the TV, this will give you the high quality picture. Then you'd want to run fiber optic cable from the cable box to the Bose system (I don't think that system accepts HDMI, I could be wrong.). You may have to have your installer play with the settings to have Video go through HDMI and sound go through Fiber Optic.

I'd hook up the PS3 or Blu-ray player the same way. That way you'd have the best quailty picture and sound that your current system has to offer.

Sorry but I don't think you be experiencing and High Def audio with a Bose. I'm not trying to trash-talk either, just a fact that I'm pretty sure it won't process it. The PS3 (or a blu-ray player) will process and send the signal, Bose will just downgrade it to standard surround sound. Double check with your installer (like I said I don't know much about Bose, only hooked up a few in my time and they were all older systems) I could be wrong.

The newer model PS3 is only non-complatable with select PS2 and PS1 titles. Most titles play fine. There are lists available of what's not compatable if you just Google for them.

Zedd- You are right, this model bose does not have a HDMI connection. I am wondering if I will notice the difference in sound with the BOSE vs High Def Sound? I am a pretty simple guy

If you play video games, PS3 without a doubt. If you just want a stand alone, go with a Sony.

Sell your Bose system and use the extra money on a real home theater system

I've had no problems at all with my Samsung BD-P2500 and would highly recommend it. It is my first BDP and cannot give any comparison with other brands/models but it has been a solid performer.

I have or have owned almost every BD player out there & the Samsungs are the worst by far. They burned that bridge with lots of folks... I'd get a Panasonic 35 or 55 ( if you can find one, new models are on there way very soon) or one of Sonys 350, 550. Just cause you have a Samsung you don't need to have a Samsung player. I know people like to match their equipment up, but there is no need unless the player TV combo will auto calibrate like the new(April) high end Pioneer player will when matched with a 9G Kuro (*kuro link) & older models will follow soon.

You WILL hear the difference in sound from a BOSE system to a true HT setup

I'm quite a fan of my Pioneer 51 myself. It's a very versatile player, lots of picture controls.

Thanks for all your advise/suggestions/opinions. All helpful. Unfort, in this economy I cannot affort to switch out the BOSE 321 so that is staying for now. I ended up getting the Sony 350. Hopefully all will look/sound good

Meh - no burned bridges here. I have the BD-P2550 from Samsung and LOVE it. Can't comment on the lesser models, but my 2550 is problem-free, and way better looking in my rack than the Sony or Panny units would be (and I have a Panny TV).

The Sony 350 is a great player. I own it and have had no problems. I am assuming you don't have it hooked up to an internet connection. You should really download and install the latest 350 firmware upgrade. See the link below, download the firmware file, and follow the instructions on properly extract it and burn it onto a blank CD-R for use in updating your player.

Here's the link to the official Sony BDP-S350 firmware download page:

https://www.blu-ray.com/firmware/firmware.php?id=36

Currently the latest firmware update is version .015. Your out-of-box firmware version is probably .007. Updating from CD takes just under 10 minutes. Enjoy your player!

I have the same tv but in a 52 inch, tried the Samsung blu ray 1500 and the Sony 350. I have both of now. Buy the Sony, there is not a great amount of differences, but some. Samsung is noisy and slow to load, menu is awkward at times some things just keep happening. The Sony is faster and is smaller and has a fan that will come on when it gets to a certain temp. The Samsung get very hot on the bottom, where as the Sony is cool on top and just barely warm on the bottom.....after hours and hours of on time.

Sony works well with the tv You will be happy. The tv is a real solid performer, you have good taste and a good eye.

Man The Samsung BD players get beat up around here. The 2550 is a fantastic player. I have tried the Sony 350 its a good player. But the 2550 looks just as good and streams netflix Analog 5.1 for lossless audio. The Sony 550 is a tad overpriced. To say the Samsung 2500 series is crap is not true.

I agree, though there is a lot of historical reasoning behind that. Earlier models of Samsung players had MANY issues with titles that it took Samsung FAR too long to get corrected. But the Samsung 2500/2550 are very good machines, and have unbeatable upscaling capability in their price range.
