Everything added is new dialogue scenes. It's largely the same film though.

Totally agree theatrical should be included. But to be fair, this isn't just an extended cut, it's a director's cut. Stallone said this is his preferred version.

The guy can tinker all he wants as many times as he wants over subsequent years but the result will never be the movie everyone experienced (and loved) in cinemas

Extended Cut all the way for me but they should throw the theatrical cut on there as well for those who like it which should always be the case. This news has made me get off my butt and finally get the first three on UHD. More Stallone on UHD is always welcome. I know they are different studios but there is no reason that the Rocky films shouldn't be available by now, especially the first one. The first Rocky is one of those films that should be required to be up for pre-order whenever a new format is announced.

It is, hugely IMO. Not so much the violence, that I can take or leave (though it makes the unrated cut feel a little less like an exploitation flick with some of the worst of it removed, Sly also did this for his DC of Expendables) but it's all the pesky dialogue stuff that's been added back in, along with symbolic stuff like throwing his old knife onto the burning boat which is why he makes that ****-off massive machete for himself later on. The DC makes Rambo less of a monosyllabic Terminator-like figure and humanises him a hell of a lot, it transformed the film for me.

Though, if both cuts are on there, then that's great news! One wonders how that's been achieved as there's a LOAD of tiny little differences between both cuts as well as the bigger additional scenes, it'd be a bastard to branch so they'd end up having to replicate entire scenes anyway. But this isn't showing as 2x UHD discs, so....

personally think this is the weakest of the series. Mostly gore porn and the lack of Jerry Goldsmith and Richard Crenna was noticeable

The DC is a more rounded version of the film, with the added dialogue and speeches giving weight to his character before the mayhem ensues. I felt at the time of seeing it, if this were the last outing, that this version was the more satisfying way to bow out than the theatrical cut. Having said that, bring on Last Blood!

Separate encodes on a BD-100 would probably work. The 20 minutes worth of credits could easily be bit-starved and even then, there'd only be just over 3 hours of content on the disc.
