Kogan new Oppo? Well, yes, Oppo was only region-free during it's 'DVD-years'; the new Oppo BD-player won't be region-free out-of-the-box and currently they don't intend to provide a patch either. By the way, Kogan is Australian, so importing one might be a little more difficult though.

What model LG do you have? I hope you know you can make the LG BH200 region-free with your remote.

No, as far as the specs indicate, the Kogan will not play AVC-HD.

I know everything you just wrote. I guess you didn't understand what I was saying.

Kogan would be the new Oppo in that it will be the Blu-ray equivalent. The Oppo will no longer be region-free but now this is. Oppo was a little-known company and only gained popularity because of it's region free status.

And, yes, I have the LG200 and know about it being region free.

I also know people in Australia so it wouldn't be impossible to get one.

Actually, Oppo gained popularity because of how high quality their DVD upscaling and SACD playback was...the region-free just happened to be an addon.

Kogan will have to jump through many hoops to be even in the same playing field as Oppo...

Its worth is just for the region-free factor. BD-Live is pretty stupid in my opinion, as long as it plays the movie, special features and handles the HD audio, im sold. I wonder where I can get one with shipping to NZ.
