I have never upgraded any of my old Disney movies from VHS, so I too will be picking this up either way. I'm glad to see Disney re-releasing all of the classics.

Markets are not zero sum and Disney probably makes the most revenue of the current physical market We worked out how much Disney made in 2018 via physical media and it was jaw dropping. They are not going to leave it behind |

You'd be surprised how many older films were filmed in native 4k.
i had to look up some stuff about this a while ago and i still dont fully understand it still but it has something to do with movie film being in insanely high definition. higher than we've had at home 10+ years ago. So many older films were filmed on movie film in a 4k resolution a long time ago but were redone in a lower quality so we could watch at home. While more modern films tend to be filmed digitally and are usually 2k (or 1440p) then upscaled to 4k (2160p) on the 4k physical disc. For example if you pull up the new dumbo (2019) 4k version on this site you'll see at the top Resolution: Upscaled 4K (2160p) and at the same time pull up an old movie like the Batman Forever (1995) movie on this site and it'll say Resolution: Native 4K (2160p) It's still a little wonky to understand and feels a little deceptive of them but it is what it is. basically an upscaled 4k is probably between 1440p (2k) and 2160p (4k) while a Native 4k should be actual 4k 2160p resolution. Which is why some films look much better than others even though you bought the "4k" disc for both of em. regardless it should be an increase on quality from a 1080p/Blu-ray film. Hope this helped a little ![]() Last edited by bromains; 07-07-2019 at 11:01 PM. |
