Warner Bros. will release the limited series The Alienist (2018) on September 10th, 2019.

This is excellent news. Apparently, Paramount have a lot of international rights to this, and they have been announcing / issuing it across Europe and Japan...on DVD only. Therefore, I had assumed that the US release had already happened, but apparently not, as it is through Turner/WB.

I don't follow the show, but I know they renewed it for a second season/"sequel series" so maybe that's coming soon and that's why it was held off like all other American shows?

The sequel miniseries is an adaptation of the sequel book from the 1990s, The Angel of Darkness. It is filming in Budapest right now, and won't air until 2020, so I don't think the late release of the BD here had anything to do with it. BDs/DVDs of TV shows routinely come out soon after they air overseas, while they routinely take six months or a year in the US.

Such a good dark gothic show definitely getting this on Blu-Ray. I always knew it was a Warner show. The logo is at the end.

Here's hoping that this will be region-free, as the series is not available overseas on Blu-ray, only on DVD. I'd really love to own an HD-version of this, so I'm really hoping it won't be region locked.

I'm here to report that the set doesn't play on a Region B player - I just tested that with a Region B Playstation 4 console. So, if you're in Region B territory and want this on Blu-ray, the Australian release seems to be the only option. Unfortunately that's a bare-bones release devoid of all extras.

Are you sure. I have never seen Warner locking any Blu-Ray. This seems highly unlikely. What does it say on backcover and disc. Please post a pic of the disc and backcover ?

I just tried again, with both discs. My standard European PS4 doesn't play them. I have access to another Region B Blu-ray player - I can try this one too.

I didn't find any region information, neither on the packaging, nor on the discs themselves. Needless to say that I'm rather disappointed.

Having some difficulties with uploading pics - I could only upload the one with the message on the PS4, but will try to provide pics of the disc and the backcover.

EDIT:
Just had a closer look and it actually says on the disc "REGION 1"

I find it weird as well - I'll try this with another Blu-ray player tomorrow. For the moment I have only the PS4 available. I'll post the results here.

Maybe it's got something to do with this being a co-production between TNT and Paramount?

Confirmation:

Both discs in this set are Region A LOCKED. This is not indicated on any of the packaging or on the disc art, but here is the region code error screen visible when attempting to play one of the discs on regions B or C:

BDInfo scan:

There are significant errors on the packaging for this release, both on the outer slipbox and on the back cover of the amaray case inside it. First of all, . the aspect ratio is not 2.40:1, but 1.78:1, which I believe is the OAR for this limited series. Secondly, the audio is not DTS-HD MA 5.1, but Dolby TrueHD 5.1. Finally, the full run time is not 440 minutes, but actually 471 minutes.

Subtitles are English SDH in a slightly smaller, thicker white font.

The extras are split across both discs and are mainly short promotional featurettes about 2-5 minutes long each. However, one extra is longer than all of the others and I have included that below.

Sermon Junior Member Member since:Aug 2019	I'm here to report that the set doesn't play on a Region B player - I just tested that with a Region B Playstation 4 console. So, if you're in Region B territory and want this on Blu-ray, the Australian release seems to be the only option. Unfortunately that's a bare-bones release devoid of all extras. Apparently, Paramount have a lot of international rights to this, and they have been announcing / issuing it across Europe and Japan...on DVD only. Therefore, I had assumed that the US release had already happened, but apparently not, as it is through Turner/WB.
