Okay, so this is one of those slightly dubious-looking smaller German labels who are doing Mediabook releases that are always being pushed back by weeks and then months and then finally either coming out or being cancelled.

Supposedly, these are the specs for Lethal Panther (as posted here on Facebook when the release date was supposed to be 2 July 2019):

Quote:
LETHAL PANTHER

I did some research on this film and it looks pretty nasty and potentially hilarious. I wasn't going to pay Amazon.de's stupid prices for one of these mediabooks, but then Cover D (which appears to use the original HK poster art) went active and I couldn't resist pre-ordering. I figure that even if the subtitles are English dubtitles or a translation from the German dub, they can't be any worse than the English subtitles I've seen on recent HK Blu-rays for HK films of this vintage.

EDIT: A Facebook post on 23 April here from Mike Leeder seems to imply that the commentary is in English, which might mean that the Godfrey Ho interview is, as well.

Funds are tight for me at the moment, and I need someone to convince me to not buy this.

The film is a trashy mix of sex and violence (and an odd choice for any sort of Sp. Ed) but I'd still quite like to hear that politically incorrect audio commentary.

Watched the movie yesterday. Love it since I first saw it on VHS 20 years ago.

The image quality of the BD is good, but not perfect. The image is clean but seems to have been lightly filtered (DNR). Colors are vibrant but the contrast is way to bright. Whites regularly bleed and in some scenes the background is filled out with white.

But we can be lucky that this obscure flick has ever come out in a restored HD version at all, so I won't make a fuss.

What bothered me more was the big, ugly font of the subtitles:

in a yellow-brownish color. Does not fit the movie at all and makes the subtitles hard to read at times.

I tried to run the additional DVD on my laptop but it did not start at all. The laptop did not even recognise there was a DVD in the drive.

Did not watch the extras yet but read the booklet. A standard Nando Rohner cut & paste job with lots of superficial information srcaped together from IMDB and Wikipedia, false facts (A BETTER TOMORROW is repeatedly discribed as the film that started the Heroic Bloodshed genre although the first Heroic Bloodshed movie was LONG ARM OF THE LAW) and lots of typing errors.

Watched the extras. The audio commentary is a really informative track and has some good laughs. The audio quality is plagued in two or three instances by some serious encoding errors that last for several seconds at a time. Sounds like bad reception of a digital stream. The audio is stuttering severely.

The interview with Godfrey Ho is fun as well but mostly repeats information already given in the audio commentary.

yeah the Subs are really embarassing, considering the rest (the timing is also beginner's stuff crappy, especially in the Interview). would be cool if they licence more from that HK Company, it's not TVP's restauration work (HK is to blame for all the Contrast and other stuff).

other companies, please follow the line

Not exactly the best catalogue ever (a lot of video rot) but of the action movies I'd say the Angel Terminators pair would be worth a shot and from the martial arts lot The Gallant Knights.

Please tell me, so the "Mediabook Edition" this movie, the booklet is pure cut and past of the Wikipedia and there are not any pictures of backstage (making of)?

I ask because I found out last year that Lethal Panther and Angel Enforcers were in HD version when I tried to download them.
Then I think is better I buy the "hartbox edition" of this movie, the simple edition. This edition also comes with extras, right?
Sorry for my english.

All the extras of LETHAL PANTHER and ANGEL ENFORCERS are on the Blu-rays as well as the DVDs. So you won't miss out on anything if you buy single-disc re-releases instead of the Mediabooks.

The booklets don't contain anything you would not find yourself via google in a few minutes. And they are German only.

ANGEL ENFORCERS is from a different company and the subtitles are way better than those of LETHAL PANTHER. Easy to read and with only two or three minor typos.

THANK YOU for your reply. It helped me to understand better about these releases on BD.

Do you have their contact info by any chance? I was interested in potentially licensing a film from them. I asked someone else and he told me they merged with China Star (Charles Heung's company) but I can't find any evidence of that. Thanks.
