Australia Danger 5: Series 1 & 2

From Madman October 23rd, seasons 1 and 2, 2 discs

Your mission is to kill Adolf Hitler...

Series 1: In each episode Danger 5 unravels another of Hitler's diabolical schemes as they travel across a myriad of exotic locations. Set in a bizarre, 1960's inspired version of World War II, action comedy series DANGER 5 follows a team of five spies on a mission to kill Adolf Hitler.

Series 2: Allied super-team Danger 5 reunite after years of far-flung obscurity to stop Hitler's ultimate quest for world domination in a 1980s excess-soaked universe of neon, ninjas, discos, dinosaurs, pizza and prom-queens!

Love tue show. Always wondered why they did not releae it on Blu-ray from the start. Hope it will not be too expensive and contain all the extras from the previous DVDs.

A bit surprised to see this coming out, I thought the Danger 5 coming out on blu-ray ship had sailed a long time ago.
Series 1 is brilliant, 2nd one was ok, just not as good as what had come before.

Plus...

It will most likely contain the extras, but it will retail for $59.95, while the existing complete series set on DVD is just $29.95. It will likely be a bit cheaper than RRP at JB Hi-Fi ($54, I'm guessing) and will be even cheaper during their occasional 20% off sales.

Either way, this is a day one buy for me. I have been yearning for a Blu-ray release since the show's inception, and this is a release that I never thought would see the light of day.

These sorts of releases need our support so that we can send the message that yes, we do want Aussie TV on Blu-ray (and so little of it is released on Blu-ray, unfortunately).

David Ashby had also confirmed (via Twitter, I believe) that they have been recording brand new audio commentaries (as recently as July or this month, even!) so there's that at least.

Can you check if this is region free? Thanks.

Now $31.98 in the 20% off sale until Sunday.

I wonder why this is so much cheaper in general at JB Hi-Fi than anywhere else?

The back cover states that the discs are region free (displaying the A, B, and C region logos), however, the discs themselves specifically display the region B logo on the artwork. Make of that what you will. The DVDs were region free, and I can't imagine that the Blu-rays would be any different. I strongly doubt that these will sell particularly well at all, so surely Madman would want to attract as many potential customers as possible, including the fans overseas that have been hankering for a Blu-ray release as well.

The case also includes a package of postcards awkwardly inserted behind the rear of the sleeve (so the rear of the case protrudes a bit), which I thought was a really stupid way to package an extra as it could risk damaging the case/sleeve if mishandled. Fortunately, my case has been unscathed, but others may not be so lucky. I assume that this bonus will only be included with the initial print run.

While it's great to finally have the series on Blu-ray, the artwork is nowhere near as nice as the standalone DVD releases of seasons 1 and 2.

I got an email 24 hours ago from JB Hi Fi it’s about to be picked up, and then it will have to sail across the world to the USA. PayPal shows me the price as 40 Australian dollars. How does that work?

It will likely be converted to US dollars, which, going by the current exchange rate, would be around US$27.20 (I'm not sure if U.S. taxes are imposed upon overseas purchases like they have recently been imposed here). Virtually all Australian online storefront prices are inclusive of GST (Goods and Services Tax), which is 10% of the total price, however, foreigners are not required to pay GST, and I am unsure if this is reflected in the pricing.

When I buy goods from overseas, there is also a foreign transaction fee imposed by my bank, which is about 1.4% of the total purchase.

Good question.

I haven't watched it yet to check, and I don't specifically recall it being mentioned on the back cover. It would be a pretty significant c^#%-up if they left it out, particularly for a release that is being spruiked as the "complete series".

I'll have to check when I get home, but I would assume that all past bonus materials would be included, as well as some new bonus content (such as the audio commentaries, which had been recorded very recently!).

If for whatever idiotic reason that The Diamond Girls has been excluded, then that would give me a reason to hang on to the DVDs.

I imagine that the cost of licensing the Spider-Man IP for a mere special feature for an already extremely niche release is a bit of an ask. :P
