I'm trying to narrow down what went wrong with my LG blu ray drive. I tried searching around for reasons, and only found one other person with the same problem on an amazon review of the drive.
Max Payne blu ray won't play on an LG GGC-H20L blu ray, in 64 bit vista, with an nvidia GTX295 gpu. It lags my computer alot, which I never see. Cyberlink PowerDVD just displays a black screen. It worked just fine with 32 bit vista and an ATI 3870 gpu. Every other blu ray in my collection works just fine. I doubt the upgraded gpu is an issue, as nvidia is very good with drivers. Is this just an LG firmware issue for vista 64? Everything is up to date with the latest drivers/firmware. Makes me wonder if i'll get stuck with another movie in the future that wont work. I even tried another FOX blu ray movie that worked as well. What makes one blu ray work over another? I've had newer and older blu rays than this one that have worked. Any ideas? |

Most of my issues comes down to either MPEG-4 or VC1. MPEG4 is VERY processor intensive and seems to cause lots of problems. Other common issues is heat, and hardware acceleration on the Vid card.

I disabled hardware acceleration, but when I put max payne in, it enabled it, and greyed it out (since a disc was in). I even restricted it with the nVidia controls, but it still wouldn't work.
I'm using the free copy I got with the drive. Going to try out the power dvd 9 trial and see if that fixes it. Edit: I take that back, the trial doesn't support blu-ray.. great trial. |

Most trial versions of the software are pretty useless, and should be avoided. If you are using both HD-DVD and Blu-ray you need PowerDVD 7.3....TMT also has a version that plays both HD and BD I believe. Just trying to give you places to look.

To find the format I usually just go here!
click the Movies button, search on the title and should list what format it was in. Now, I can play SOME MPEG-4 movies (Ironman has no issues) but movies like Live Free or Die Hard, no way. I have Shooter in HD-DVD that I'm not surprised it just doesn't spit it out of my PC. Usually I can get to a title screen or 3 minutes of a movie...Not that one. Live Free or Die Hard is just about as bad. I REALLY need a PC upgrade my P4 3.0Ghz OCed to around 3.4hz just isnt cutting it anymore. |

Power DVD9 did nothing. Max Payne completely crashes the program now.. at least before I could eject and get it back w/o going in task manager. It looks like it is playing the disc, the elapsed/time remaining number counts up.. but nothing displays.
All of my other BD's work as well.. I guess I got a shiny new player for 70 bucks? ![]() It isn't the video codec. I have several other movies that use MPEG4-AVC and that's what Max Payne uses. And it isn't the GPU compatability anymore.. so that narrows it down to 64 bit vista or LG firmware for 64 vista.. and my bet is going towards a bad firmware update. Model = GGC-H20L Version = 1.03 (Firmware) There are newer versions for other manufacturers of the same drive, but my auto update stops at this one. Program Version = 9.01.0109.01 Any more ideas? An ATI 43xx has on board decoding and should play fine with your CPU. Even a 4350 for under $50 will work. All your CPU has to do is the decryption calculations. It should be fine with that. |

Reverting to an older firmware still has the same problem. (1.02)
Power DVD 9 still crashes. So I've eliminated gpu problems, software problems, and tried multiple firmwares. I refuse to downgrade to 32 bit vista a 3rd time, especially for a 30$ BD. Any chance the disc went bad? It isn't scratched, but the bottom isn't a perfect mirror finish. It looks like it has wavy rings on it. I noticed this on some other BD's I have. I'm out of ideas now. At least I got to see it once. |

Do those other ones work still? Maybe try it in another player if you know someone who has one (or rent a PS3 or something). Might be a combination of things hard to say. But I understand your frustration. Why can't Sh1t just work!!!! |

I recently bought a sony vaio fw235j, and removed my blu ray drive from my FZ180E laptop because it stopped working and created an enclosure for the drive. When i connect it to my FW235j pc it shows in my computer that it is a blu ray drive but when i insert a blu ray movie it says that the drive is empty. I called sony they told me that i need to download the newest version of Windvd because i had windvd 8 platinum , i installed the windvd 9 plus and nothing changed , what should i do please help. I can' figure out how to start a new thread so I'm posing here in hopes someone will read it and be able to help.
Problem: When trying to play Blu-Ray movie, Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 has a warning sign pop-up that reads: "This content is only allowed on a digital output. Ensure your display device uses a DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort connector. - [Error Code = 0121]. Run the BD Advisor tool for more information." However, when I run the BD Advisor for Blu-Ray playback, it passes all categories. Here is my information: Computer: HP M8530f Media Center AMD Phenom(tm) 9550 Quad-Core Processor 2.20 GHz RAM: 5.00 GB VISTA 64-bit OS Display adapters: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 (GeForce 8200 + GeForce 9300 GE) NVIDIA GeForce 9400 (GeForce 9300GE + GeForce 8200) Monitor: Dell E207WFP • Signal Input DVI-D, VGA • Features HDCP • Max Resolution 1680 x 1050 / 60 Hz LightScribe LG Super Multi BLUE Internal Blu-ray Disc Rewriter BH12 Software: Super Multi Blue Please tell me what I can do to correct the problem. Thank you. |

Is it the latest patched version of the software (PowerDVD)? Latest nVidia driver? Have you tried the VGA (analog) connection to test? |
