Hong Kong Cold War II 3D Blu-ray (2016) [Region A Locked / Hong Kong only]

Stumbled upon this Hong Kong action/crime series (Tony Leung, Chow Yun-fat), for which part II is available on 3D Blu-ray.

Anyone checked out the movies? Any good? What about part II in 3D?

Hi HDM,

Been a while since I watched it but remember enjoying it very much and very good 3D. Looking at the case now and says won nine Hong Kong awards including best picture.

Have watched both in the series and found them enjoyable but a little confusing. It would help to have some knowledge of the Hong Kong legal and Police system. It’s also quite interesting how they push Hong Kong as the safest city in Asia, whilst in the middle of the events played out in these films.

The second one, presented in 3-D as you mentioned, would be harder to follow without the character development and events portrayed in the first film and I’d recommend you watch that prior if you can.

The 3-D is effective and used well enough. It never really wows however and there’s little in the way of pop-outs. I’d say it was mild-medium with some scenes more immersive than others.

If you can find a good deal for both films I’d say go for it.

Outside of the aerial shots of Hong Kong that looked nice in 3D, i remember the 3D in this film was conservative, nothing special in terms of the 3D but it is better than 2D, just depth and no pop outs, i felt they should of pushed the 3D out a bit more especially in the film's action scenes, some missed opportunities with the pop outs in the action scenes, it had mild-medium 3D layers.

Hi HDM,

Glad to help out. Doubt you will be disappointed, but if so you can always get the Hong Kong police to come after us!

I enjoyed both the Cold War films but the second part's 3D is indeed very conservative and as such completely unmemorable.

Hi 13,

Recall it being what could be considered conservative but with decent depth.

Settled in completely?

Hi Joe

It's always a bad sign when I can remember nothing about it, but if you're going to watch the movie then it may as well be in 3D!

My current setup will do until I find somewhere permanent to live but it looks like I'll be living out of boxes for a while.

Hi 13,

LOL. Yes, that is true. That's why I can agree with you about it being conservative. There was 3D but if I recall a lack of ingenuity.

Didn't know you still looking for a place to settle down. Hope you unpack the boxes soon. Good luck!
