I hope this a 4K collection. Otherwise I’m gonna pass, have the previous collection and doubt these will be some new scans.

I'm so excited, I was looking for a satisfying blu-ray set of Kubrick's films but I hoped for something newer and better... and I was planning to visit the Kubrick exhibition. And today : THIS.

I realised that the HTML code shows the website is made with Shopify so I really can't wait to spend all my money!

Unlikely to be a 4K complete collection, reliable sources have said recently that the Full Metal Jacket restoration isn't done and Eyes Wide Shut would follow that.

I think the only film of his I'm missing is Lolita, and I've tried to get the best releases of individual titles as they're available (Criterion, digibooks, 4K). I'm mostly intrigued, but I'm also tired.

Do we even have reason to be confident this is a home video collection? Obviously the title is promising, but as far as I can tell from the image and the countdown site, this could just as well be a fancy coffee table book tie-in to the recent museum exhibit--the "collection" of artifacts.

On Instagram they teased this with a background picture from 2001 (already released in 4K), the countdown is a picture of Shining (screened in 4K in Cannes Film Festival and to be released in 4K home video this fall), and the caption of this box quoted a line from A Clockwork Orange... Which was re-released in UK this year. So, nothing implies it's a home video collection. Yet, we know there is a website entirely dedicated to this, so it's enough to convince me!

It's a Warner Brothers website.

yeah Im puzzled about this, huge Kubrick fan myself, but Ive seen so many times a repackaged bluray's in a new box. I cant imagine WB making a big deal if its just a repackaged release. A full UHD set is very unlikely unless its release is a pretty long time in the future since a at least Full Metal Jacket/EWS hasnt done yet in 4k.

So maybe its something from the exhibition? Or maybe a partly UHD set?

I'd say that looks like a Criterion package but there's no logo on the sides, which it would surely have... How many films of Kubrick's does CC have??

They could certainly be taking part in the publishing of a book, though. I'm not saying it's definitely NOT a movie set--it probably is--I'm just saying we have literally no idea what's in that box, and this seems like a strangely prestigious hype method for yet another set of discs. But who knows.

I don’t know if I’d count “Spartacus” since that isn’t an active license compared to the other 5.

The DVD is still in print, so technically they sell have the rights to it.

Hmmm. I've already got this one:

And even if this new set has lots of remastered BDs (though I've the Criterion Lyndon and 2001 4K already) I'm not going to spunk a load of dosh on it unless it's 4K as well.

[edit]

Although if it does turn out to be a Criterion-curated BD set then that makes it more palatable, although still very expensive as it'd have to be imported (can't see Criterion UK coming up with the same set as the rights to his earlier movies are with different distributors) so again, it's something I can wait on until the price is right.

With the carpet pattern from The Shining.

Then there's this post from Facebook: "Viddy well, little droogies..." We've got a big surprise coming to you. Watch this space at 10am Thursday (BST).

Will it have Clockwork Orange, The Shining, and 2001 on UHD?
