Default Can any players play Dolby Atmos MKV demos via network streaming or USB?

I've struck out with both my Sony UBP-X800 and Panasonic DP-UB420K, neither player will play Dolby Atmos MKV demos whether streaming via Plex or playing directly from USB.

Anyone aware of any player that supports Atmos on MKV?

MKV uses lossy Dolby ATMOS instead of lossless 7.1 Dolby TrueHD core found on Blu-ray's.

"MKV is not a good format for ATMOS. M2TS is better and more compatible with ATMOS. A lot of players encounter the problem of not being able to extract the objects properly from the 7.1 bed"

Their info is substantially out of date, MKV has no problems with lossless Atmos/TrueHD in the MKV container. NVidia Shield will do it, but I don't want to pay that much for an external device, I'd rather replace my main player so I can have one device that does everything.

As far as I know, the Oppo UDP-203 is the only one that does it right but sadly since it's long out of production the Oppo UDP-203 is getting more & more expensive these days. Your only two options at this point is either get a Nvidia Shield or convert those MKVs to M2TS in order for Dolby Atmos and/or Dolby TrueHD to play correctly.

Check out the list of players here. The Zidoo Z9S may do what you want.

Thansk Wendell, I'll absolutely check that one out, sounds like the Dune media players may also fit the bill. Perhaps I need to give up looking at solely a player, as the Oppo is still out of my price range.

For what it's worth, if you have permissions for that spreadsheet, the Sony UBP-X800 does MKV using local area network as long as it's Dolby Digital, dts core or dts-HD Master Audio. I haven't tried dts-X but it definitely won't do TrueHD or Atmos.

@dobyblue For the most part, MKVs with DTS:X and/or DTS-HD Master Audio on it should work just fine on most players including my LG UBK90 4K player which like I said, handles MKVs with DTS:X and/or DTS-HD Master Audio very well.

I know this is an old thread, but thought I'd jump in since I was also looking for a device that streamed mkv in lossless atmos. The Oppo UDP-203 does not play atmos tracks if it's in the mkv format, instead it reverst to PCM without the height channels. I ended up buying the new Nvidia Shield PRO so I can play atmos audio through streams from my server. I still find Oppo quality better especially with upscaled 1080p content, but unfortunately I prefer having the atmos tracks working.
