I've struck out with both my Sony UBP-X800 and Panasonic DP-UB420K, neither player will play Dolby Atmos MKV demos whether streaming via Plex or playing directly from USB.
Anyone aware of any player that supports Atmos on MKV? |

MKV uses lossy Dolby ATMOS instead of lossless 7.1 Dolby TrueHD core found on Blu-ray's.
quote "MKV is not a good format for ATMOS. M2TS is better and more compatible with ATMOS. A lot of players encounter the problem of not being able to extract the objects properly from the 7.1 bed" https://thedigitaltheater.com/dolby-trailers/ Bluray Player can't play Dolby Atmos movies (.mkv format |

As far as I know, the Oppo UDP-203 is the only one that does it right but sadly since it's long out of production the Oppo UDP-203 is getting more & more expensive these days. Your only two options at this point is either get a Nvidia Shield or convert those MKVs to M2TS in order for Dolby Atmos and/or Dolby TrueHD to play correctly.

For what it's worth, if you have permissions for that spreadsheet, the Sony UBP-X800 does MKV using local area network as long as it's Dolby Digital, dts core or dts-HD Master Audio. I haven't tried dts-X but it definitely won't do TrueHD or Atmos. |

@dobyblue For the most part, MKVs with DTS:X and/or DTS-HD Master Audio on it should work just fine on most players including my LG UBK90 4K player which like I said, handles MKVs with DTS:X and/or DTS-HD Master Audio very well.
