I didn't know about the poster either. Nice surprise. I may actually hang this one

Mine came damaged from Best Buy. It appears that the slipcover has water damage that I only noticed after taking off the shrinkwrap. Hopefully they will let me exchange it for another copy.

Arrow’s release of COMMUNION looks like absolute perfection, and has a bloodier scene to boot. Nice slip, reversible cover with original poster art, booklet, and crammed with extras including an entire alternate cut of the film. Arrow has come to the rescue of a historically mistreated cult classic once again. They’re not my favorite label for nothing!

Anyone up for direct PQ comparisons?

Finally got around to watching. Had a lot of fun! Adore the craft of the movie.

One question; is there a name for Alice's mask? I have been inspired to take part in Halloween this year and need to know if I can buy one or will have to put myself to work with some prop making.

This was the cheapest version I could find.

I love the film, I first saw it when I was a teen and tracked down the old Anchor Bay DVD. This disc is a revelation, even the 88 disc was a huge step above the transfers we’ve got in the past but this new edition blows everything else away. Finally the film is presented in an edition it’s always deserved.

The scene where
[Show spoiler]the aunt gets stabbed in the stairwell
I still believe is one of the most frighteningly chilling scenes in American horror.

I was really taken with how stylish it is. And yea the
[Show spoiler]aunt's scene is chilling, especially considering she gets away and is left in a state of psychological trauma.

I'm also surprised Alice has stayed so under the radar through the years. That mask and raincoat, man! haha

The archival commentary with Edward Salier and Alfred Sole is great; they discuss a number of the sophisticated shots they pulled off and seemed genuinely surprised that their low budget movie was so well executed and artful.

Yikes! That's the friggin' plastic mask from Last House on Dead End Street, not Alice Sweet Alice.

The ASA plastic mask isn't as terrifying, IMO.

Here's the one from Alice Sweet Alice: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/6911...sparent-female

I haven’t actually seen a mask that looks just like the one from ASA. The smile is always too broad or the makeup too garish.

I guess I'm never choosing the "Free shipping" option on Amazon again. It's a week since release and it's still not shipped. It says it will be here by Friday, but I have my doubts. Very annoyed. I chose the free shipping only because Amazon's minimum shipping fee was $8, which seemed insane to me.

I'd contact them. That is a pretty big delay.

I did, and they just reiterated that I selected free shipping and that the item would arrive by August 16. I've always had good experiences with Amazon aside from this. I honestly am wondering if they are doing this deliberately to incentivize people to get Prime.

I used to have Prime and when I did, my understanding was that only Prime users were given free shipping when ordering directly from Amazon; I didn't even know there was a free shipping option for non-Prime members until I didn't renew my membership. Before I had Prime, I rarely ordered directly from Amazon, and usually got things from private sellers, so maybe I just wasn't aware they had a free (and apparently excruciatingly slow) shipping option for non-Prime members.

Yeah, I contacted Amazon on Saturday, and they assured me it was still coming. I don't know if it was just a coincidence, but not long after, the order changed to shipped & I got a tracking number. It arrived Monday. I hope your copy arrives soon.

The bluray looked lovely. I first saw the film sometime ago; I rented the Anchor Bay dvd or I got it through the library. I liked it then, but I didn't recall how quirky it was. Not a bad thing though. Glad to have it in the collection.

I hope so. If it doesn't update to shipped by Thursday, there is no way in hell it is getting here Friday. I am considering cancelling the order because I'm so irritated by it.

Amazon came through, to my surprise--I got home from work yesterday and it was in my mailbox. The wait was annoying and protracted, but I watched it last night and it looked absolutely amazing, so I'm over the irritation of having to wait a week and a half. This movie was a huge part of my childhood and one of my "gateway" horror films, and I've waited for years for a stateside release. Arrow's transfer is beautiful and it looks like a different film. I want to pop my Anchor Bay DVD in tonight just for reference to compare the PQ. I could immediately tell that Arrow's transfer is significantly more colorful, plus the alternate clip in Father Tom's death scene that was posted upthread, as well as the title sequence—I assume this was sourced from the print that Warner owned? It can't be the same as the Anchor Bay one, right?

They definitely highlighted the horrifying visuals of the movie, plus all the grim Catholic imagery. I love the church bells that chime throughout it as well. Very moody, and captures the tone of the film well.

Arrow's was sourced from the original camera negative for the first time on home video.
