Keep in mind, I'm not including "pie in the sky" options like Ubisoft, EA, Bethesda, Take Two, etc. I'm only including options that I think are at least quasi realistic or at worst, dark horse picks. Which studios would like to see Sony go after?
For me personally, I would love to see Sony go after Bungie. The one area that Sony could stand to strengthen their games library is in multiplayer and Bungie would be a great developer to add to their stable for that. Now, is that likely? Probably not. But who knows? |

I'm not gonna chime in with a studio as i'm not too familiar with the output of the ones listed bar a few like From Software of Bloodborn3 fame etc. but my immediate thought is that whichever studio Sony buys, they would obviously need to figure out how long that investment will take to pay off and the more mainstream a game any studio purchased could make, would likely help Sony recoup that investment quicker. That said, such studios ususlly cost more and inversely the others could cost less but take longer.
I feel like Bungie is ripe for a FPS game and their experience would shine whilst Platinum Games would be great to add more mainstream 3rd person action to the mix. So if possible, the three bottom studios would be my pick with Platinum Games probably as a number 1 choice, then Bungie and finally From Software. |

I guess I could vote for one, Remedy Software, since I know some of their games, though first party developers don't have the freedom as third party developers do in some situations in my opinion, since they might be prompted sometimes by Sony to make a certain type of game rather than freely being able to create whatever they wanted. But that might not be the case these days, considering Sony Bend was able to freely create the game they wanted, with Days Gone, a zombie open world game.

The way Sony has been with Japanese companies lately I would say none. But if I had to choose it would be Nippon Ichi Software(NIS). But I wouldn’t want that to expand to NISA. I just want the Japanese branch to get out of being so close to bankruptcy.

Other for me. Where is SONY lacking right now? The only spot I can see is in the racing genre. Polyphony takes way to long to get games out. I'd say they acquire another company that can make great non-hardcore sims (not saying that's what GT is before somebody comes in and puts words in my mouth). It's been way too long since a Motorstorm style exclusive set tills on fire.
Also, it's not Bluepoint Interactive but Bluepoint Games if you mean the company that does the stellar remakes. Bluepoint Interactive seems to be a marketing firm. |

Sony should invest in Japanese studios
they're like a bad imitation of a PlayStation exclusive Last edited by Talal86; 08-23-2019 at 09:32 PM. |

However I understand the reason behind Exclusives. Without them, there is no incentive to buy one console over another. |

Imo, Japanese studios haven't really adjusted well into a global gaming environment. Whilst we still have millions of interested fans of those types of games for them to sell, they're never gonna have as much sales success imo.
Sony should look to buy a Japanese studio if they do that's more Western oriented in the games they make. After all, there's a much bigger push these days towards AAA being the domain of Western studios and more smaller scale pared back titles focusing on Japanese culture etc. Think Yakuza etc. I think Bungie is a tad bit overrated tbh. They're likely to come with a huge price tag to boot and likely to not return on investment quick unless they pull their finger out. I don't know about you guys but i really was disappointed by Destiny and it only improved really late into its lifecycle and even Destiny 2 was laden with issues. Some still to this day fans maybe don't like. I think buying studios is a tough old game. Really it's the talent you want in them and to stay with you. Bioware for example is nothing but a shell of its former self and just trades on the name imo. This Bioware isn't the one of Mass Effect 2 and so on fame. |

Which is one of the reasons why I suggested it. I’m sure a lucrative financial deal would emerge that satisfied both Sony and Nintendo.

But see, that's an area where Sony could strengthen their portfolio. They already have a glut of 3rd person narrative-driven single player games. Where they need help is the first person/multiplayer genre. That's why acquiring Remedy to me makes no sense. It's just adding another developer that makes the kind of games Sony already has a massive surplus of. Why not go after developers who's strength is in areas that Sony is lacking?
