Who is going to EVO(Evolution) Championship this year?

I am hoping to play SF4 which is being played on the PS3. If i do go this will be my 1st time going. And it is always in Las Vegas.

What is EVO?

Just a gathering of people playing the following fighting games,

* Street Fighter 4
* Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix
* Soul Calibur 4
* Marvel vs. Capcom 2
* Guilty Gear XX, Accent Core
* SF3, Third Strike, 2v2 team tournament

Yes cash prizes, depending on how many people enter, maybe some other prizes, but im not sure, but cash prizes is a sure thing. They haven't posted the registration costs yet. They are expecting a good turn out for SF4, 200-300 or hopefully more around 500. It should be alot of fun.

I used to do competition all the time for counter-strike, and I quite enjoyed my time. Not at Evo per say but general LAN's, tournaments, etc.

Actually, EVO staff is expecting more than 500. We're talking almost 1,000 people here. Easily.

Also, this will be your first EVO, so don't expect to do a lot of winning. Everyone's first EVO goes bad since nobody has any clue to how everyone else plays. If you travel a lot to tournies around the U.S., then you have a good measuring stick as to how everyone plays and can work with that.

I, myself, am going this year because it's SF4 and it's finally a new game on the lineup instead of the old crap the scene has been playing for almost 10 years. Top 8 or bust for me.

I was thinking at least 500, but 1000 that would be crazy. Yeah SF4 is going to be great at EVO this year. I haven't played SF competitively since Super SF Turbo back in the day.

Yeah, we used to do loads of clan meet-ups (our CS clan was > 100 people at its peak!), trying to get one planned for Killzone 2, but it is much harder now that people have jobs, and PS3s are a pain to carry around and network without really good switchers.
