Doctor Who: The Collection - Season 26 Blu-ray

Doctor Who: The Collection - Season 26 Blu-ray reissue Jan 2022

Up for pre-order at Amazon. 27th January 2020.

Season 26 features four epic adventures traversing a future Britain invaded by inter-dimensional knights, a strange Victorian house haunted by ghosts from Ace’s past, an alien world populated by Cheetah People and a 1940s army camp under siege from monstrous vampires.

With guest stars including Nicholas Courtney (Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart), Anthony Ainley (The Master), Jean Marsh, Nicholas Parsons, Anne Reid, Ian Hogg, Sylvia Syms and comedy duo Hale & Pace, this fondly-remembered set of stories saw the end of an era for Doctor Who, and set the stage for its hugely successful revival.

• The Curse Of Fenric VHS Extended Version
• The Curse Of Fenric DVD Special Edition
• Battlefield VHS Extended Version
• Battlefield DVD Special Edition

5.1 surround sound & isolated scores
• On all 14 broadcast episodes, plus 5.1 sound on all extended versions of The Curse Of Fenric and Battlefield.

Making ‘The Curse of Fenric’
• A brand new documentary featuring Sylvester McCoy, Sophie Aldred, Tomek Bork, Nicholas Parsons, Cory Pulman, Marek Anton, Ian Briggs, Andrew Cartmel, Mark Ayres and Ian Collins featuring unseen behind-the-scenes footage and photographs.

My favourite Doctor and this was his best season of stories in my opinion. Definite purchase and hopefully I can get it before they end up selling out and on ebay for....

Oh snap, this is so cool! Was hoping for McCoy to happen soon. Together with Baker the ones I haven't seen anything from at all. Also heard amazing things regarding this season!

It's a really; really good season. I am slightly biased because McCoy is my favourite Doctor but I genuinely believe this to be one of the best seasons ever. Ace (the Doctor's companion) has a brilliant arc; the stories touch on real world issues and have heart; there are some scary moments; iconic images and great performances.

Oh yes.
And it has the original VHS special edition of Fenric on too, which wasn't on the DVD, and which I regard as the best version.
Yes.

It’s a great season, but some lousy production values - the awful video cameras used for a start - scupper at least three of them and the final one is further undermined by terrible cat people costumes and a rod puppet *****cat.

You have to read the novelisations to get just how good these four stories are. That said, it’s still a great season and, Remembrance aside, contains the best of the McCoy era.

EDIT: censoring the pet form of cat as used in children’s nursery rhymes such as Ding Dong Bell? Really???

Yes.
Is there a breakdown of the differences somewhere? I remember Fenric having a regrade for darker weather, additional CGI for the runes, digital rain effects and a 5.1 sound mix remixed by Mark Ayres - and of course feature length with no episode closings/openings.

Slightly off topic. In my TV collection I had 110 entries. Today I noticed it had gone down to 107 instead of going up when I added my pre-order.

Glitch ??

Steering back on Topic. Pre-ordered this. Looks great from the trailer.

I agree 100% - season 25 and 26 are two of the best of the classic series. Seven and Ace is definitely one of the 2-3 best Doctor/companion pairings ever (after Four/Sarah and maybe - it's really close - Three/Jo).

I'm most looking forward to the writer's roundtable, it looks like all of the writers plus Andrew Cartmel are taking part so it should be good stuff.

Pre-ordered, of course.

If that footage shown in the announcement trailer of the extended cuts/Ghost Light workprint really is sourced from VHS tapes then it's been cleaned up very well - or were they able to go back to earlier masters?

I think season 26 is a better representation of 7th than 23 is of 6th. My main complaint about this season is it's production values, to be blunt a lot of it looks children's TV cheap. Otherwise there's a lot to love here. Very much looking forward to the Ghostlight workprint as if ever a Classic Who story needed extending rather than trimming it was this one.

This'll be the fourth of these sets I've pre-ordered but in this case barring some sort of financial meltdown it'll be the first one I won't later regret and cancel.

It's one of my favourite seasons of Who in the 80s.
I'd kinda given up on Doctor Who when Davison had left, and started watching again during season 25 and through into 26.

Swear I've had stuff randomly drop out of my collection before now....

Re S26 - I need to rewatch this as at the time I pretty much blamed it for killing Doctor Who as an ongoing series, being unappreciative of the various other factors at the time. Didn't help when Hale and f*cking Pace turned up either.....
