I really want Rear Window and Vertigo, but considering Universal owns them, I worry about their fate on BD. Will Universal put any work at all into their transfers, or just recycle the HD masters from the Legacy DVD's? Will they smother them in DNR, as they do with so many of their catalog titles? Will they include the original audio (a must, in the case of Vertigo)?

For all the Alfred Hitchcock fans here:
Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection Blu-ray will be released on October 30th, 3012. The collection, while not complete by any means, is at least a start. Many of you here at the forum are already aware of this release, so please excuse this post. The UK release which does not contain North by Northwest, is a good bit cheaper, at least at Amazon UK. I hear there are troubles with the titles and the authoring on this collection so it may be delayed to fix them. Saboteur / Shadow of a Doubt / Rope / Rear Window / The Trouble with Harry / The Man Who Knew Too Much / Vertigo / North by Northwest / Psycho / The Birds / Marnie / Torn Curtain / Topaz / Frenzy / Family Plot |

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread, but I just saw this with some friends at a Hitchcock Festival here. Probably one of the best times I've had lately at the movies. Ordered the Blu the second I got home.
[Show spoiler] It has the perfect mix of funny and wit and all on an interesting location. [Show spoiler] I couldn't think of any bad scenes at all. Definitely edge of your seat worthy! I'm actually quite surprised that a Blu exists for it. A very nice find! Another well deserved spot in my Criterion section. |

Has anyone done a comparison between this version and Network UKs version?

Tried playing back this disc today. Sony BD player displays the first flash of the Criterion 'C' sign and then just spins. Played it back on a Funai player, player displays a message that disc cannot be played back. Disc looks absolutely clean with no marks or scratches. Does not display any bronzing that seems to have affected some other 2009 Anyone else in the same boat ?

I got a replacement directly from Criterion. Contact Jon Mulvaney at Criterion, his email is on the website. You'll have to send the disc back. |
