One of the weirdest and most bizarre movies I've ever seen. Not sure if anyone else here has ever seen it. I have a hard time describing it exactly, but I'll do my best. It's a Sci-Fi/Horror hybrid. The plot concerns a father who disappears for a number of years and returns to his family, only he isn't quite the same. Is he an alien or something? The plot is rather thin, connected and weaved together with some of the strangest imagery ever to be filmed onscreen. Ever wanted to see a man-sized GI Joe doll stab an old lady to death or a dwarf clown kill people or an alien rape a woman and she later gives birth to a fully-grown man? I bet this is the only movie out there with such scenes in it. Does it sound bizarre? You bet it is and then some. The film is basically an exercise in weirdness and feels like all of your most bizarre dreams amalgamated into a strange hybrid.

Here's a sampling of just how truly bizarre and off the wall this film is, and believe me when I say this isn't even a small glimpse into this movie's weirdness.

It's an acquired taste of a film for sure. I'm drawn to weird and unusual films like it so I dig it in a way, but I can definitely see why it isn't everyone else's cup of tea. It has two sequels, both of which appear to be completely unrelated and yet have the same director of the original, with a fourth film that was supposedly in the works. My curiousity dictates I must see them.

Ah, yes. I'm aware of this movie. Mostly because of it's infamous birth scene, which I would post but don't want to get banned.

I was going to post that but think I'd surely get banned if I did. I'm sure it can be found pretty easily on YouTube, for those who are curious (just be warned).

I picked up the region free Second Sight release earlier this year as a blind buy. I agree that it's definitely weird. It's also cool as hell. I really enjoyed it. It's that kind of weird where you just can't take your eyes off. Some really good practical effects as well.

I love Xtro. One of my favorite movies since I first saw it at the cinema in 1983. The sequels are caca though.

Funny thing is the same director returned for the sequels. From the looks of things, they don't have a single thing to do with the original.

I've been contemplating getting the Second Sight release. Has there been word of a Region 1 release from a company like Scream Factory? They've got a licensing deal with New Line who distributed the film in the U.S. so I've been wondering if it might see release from them at some point.

From what I read, he only did those to keep the rights to the film and the name I believe.

Are you sure the Second Sight standard edition of Xtro isn't region free? The details on this site could easily be wrong. I have their limited edition and it isn't region locked.

I watched this back in the VHS days and have no great desire to see it again. Just another zero- budget Alien knock-off and more disjointed than most.

Are you sure you're thinking of this movie? It has a killer alien in it, sure, but Xtro's not very Alien-like. It isn't set in a claustrophobic location and is full of bizarre characters and set pieces from a life-sized GI Joe action figure that kills a woman in her apartment with a bayonet, an evil dwarven clown and a woman giving birth to an adult man, all set against middle-class English home life.

This was the film that inspired Chris Cunningham to do what he does.

Yes, I’m quite sure. It was one of many cheapo exploitation films which got made because of the success of Alien, complete with an alien impregnation, the offspring bursting out of the body and an alien life cycle including eggs and a humanoid alien which in part resembles a biomechanical insect. All of that was cribbed from Alien which came out only three years before. It‘s true that Xtro throws in everything else plus the kitchen sink, with none of it making much sense.

I meant I was contemplating getting it since it's region-free but was wondering if it may see a Region 1 release from a company like Scream Factory.
