Does anyone use this?
I have used Plex for years to view my photos and downloaded videos on my tv. But now whenever I go to the Roku app, it doesn't show my stuff. Last weekend, I uninstalled older and installed a new version on my desktop. I linked accounts and all my stuff showed up. I go to it today and it's all gone again and I'm trying to remember what I did before to get it back. Is there a better app to view photos and video from my computer to my tv? |

I've been using Plex and all it's various apps since 2011. I have a collection of over 214 tv series, over 2000 movies, all my home videos, family photos, all my music, etc on it. I haven't had any significant issues for a number of years now. The roku app is what is primarily used throughout my home (though I personally like to use my xbox one app usually). If you're having issues and decide to go back I should be able to help.

I'd also suggest setting the settings to "Fallback to insecure connections..." if you haven't already. There are a world of small tweaks that I've read about and made over the years to ensure my server runs smoothly. As I mentioned it's quite rare for my own server to go down these days but I've had many instances in the past where what you have described has happened to me as well. Are you hosting your media on an external drive? If so, has it gone to sleep? (or has your computer hosting said media gone to sleep?) When opening my Plex players sometimes it will say I am disconnected as it waits for an updated signal (or devices to wake up)... pressing the home button usually solves that. It's rare to have issues inside my home, though things do pop up when streaming from work or when on another network. If you haven't already, I'd also recommend setting your server/desktop to never sleep. I host all of my media content on an older desktop running Windows 8.1 at this point with it set to never sleep. |

As far as your server not working, clearly something is going wrong. Have you reset your router recently? Any power outages/blinks? Even the most basic of connection issues can cause the software to foul up. If it isn't the hardware going to standby mode or sleep, then perhaps it's a connection issue resulting from an unstable internet connection. |
