Just watched mine a couple of days ago, no problems at all.

Raging Bull was the first blu-ray I ever watched that I thought was defective. It didn't default back to the menu but froze up and wouldn't play past a certain point. I could skip ahead, but not watch a certain scene and I actually began to panic, thinking it was my PS3 dying or a defective disc.

I ejected the BD and looked at its surface. There was a thin ring I noticed part way around the disc. It didn't look like gunk on the surface, but I was able to wipe it off. The disc played fine after that.

Moral of the story is: be sure to clean the surface of discs that don't play right, even if it doesn't look dirty.

While I got it to play fine, myself and at least one other poster noted that there's an approximate 1-2" vertical strip that shows up in the right hand portion of the screen during certain scenes (it's especially visible during some of the boxing matches where the backdrop is black). I'm not sure if this is from the master or if there was an issue with the transfer/encode, but since I'm not the only one to see it, seems like it's not a player/tv issue.

I'm thinking on getting Raging Bull as part of the Columbia House BOGO offer on Blu Ray,is the quality any better than the superb 2 disc dvd version from 2005? That one had a great picture,sound and extras!!! This is one of my all time faves,is it worth the upgrade? Does it have the same extras as the 2 disc?,I dont have any B&W films on blu yet!

watched it last night, looks truely stunning, especially the fights, there is slight grain but then thats how it was filmed, and it has all the extras from the previous release. If you love Raging bull then its a must have imo.

I've bought two copies of the Raging Bull blu-ray and both have been defective -- they load fine, but then only flip back to the menu if you hit Play. Anyone else having this problem?

hmm thats interesting. I think i only pressed play once and the rest of the times i went directly to scene selection to watch a particular scene.

Nope, haven't had the problem. Two discs in a row sounds too unlikely to be an issue with the disc.

What sort of equipment are you using?

I have an Insignia something-or-other, and for some reason it seems to dislike Scorsese movies. All of them -- Casino, Aviator, Gangs of NY, The Departed, all freeze up at some point. It's a problem I haven't had with any other blu-ray. But the Raging Bull refusing to play at all is something new.

You need a firmware update..
