Post in new display technologies, that's where most of the OLED related threads are.

Not really anymore. The last set that competed with OLED inky blacks was the Sony ZD9 coming in 65", 75" and 100". The 65" version was always too far out of my price range (even as a seconds market purchase) or I'd have gotten that TV.

People rightly argue OLED doesn't need 2000 nits when it has the inky blacks for constrasting the HDR content, but accurately. It's not a gimmick. The black bars are meant to be a veritable vacuum of light output (0 nits). And that's how it comes across on the OLED screens I have seen.

Now, I have lots of viewing 4K UHD under my belt with a very competent FALD LCD, and yet it can't compete on that level of "black hole" viewing from an OLED that the main image pops out of on scope movies, particularly.

No flashlighting and brightness "bleeding" into the black bars really helps sell the HDR to a pleasing experience. I say this A LOT but only bright beach scenes really come across objectively more stunning and vibrant on FALD LCD.

And that's still relative, as unless you had the sets side by side you can't really perceive that. But star fields are immediately noticeably better on OLED.

If they did you would have never ending burn-in.

Well my LG C8 after a couple of updates, according to my Panasonic UB820. Is accepting 3800nits MAXCLL. Though I highly doubt it's really getting that high, as ABL rightly won't allow for such insanity on an OLED.

this website often has good specs on tvs. They list the brightness in cd/m2 (candela per square meter) which appears to be a 1:1 conversion to nits.

Nit count is not important. It’s a marketing gimmick bordering on snake oil.

If you're looking for Nit count the Vizio PQX series can get up to like 3500 nits or something ridiculous like that.
