Default What are your thoughts on The Shining (1980)?

In my opinion, every part of The Shining is just about excellent. From the locations, to the cinematography, to the music, to the actors. It is unique, and there's no other film like it.

My favorite parts of the movie, are the ghost scenes, particularly of Lloyd and Delbert Grady. I love the scene where Jack starts hearing music playing in a part of the hotel, then he walks into the ballroom and it's like a former time, and he runs into the ghost of Delbert Grady. That could be the very best scene in the movie.

One of the best parts of the movie is actor Scatman Crothers, the likable cook of the hotel, who had psychic ability. Another amazing scene is the room 237 scene, featuring the ghost in the bathroom. The maze scene is another.

It's hard to dislike The Shining. The amazing locations, cinematography, and actors are unique and excellent. The theme song is one of the best in horror movies. There will never be another movie like it, it is too unique in just about every way.

What are your thoughts on The Shining (1980)?

One of my all time favs. Blows the book away. Excellent performances. It’s just damned good!

Is this a question that needed asking? It's widely regarded as one of the best horror movies ever made and everyone loves it.

It's not my favorite Kubrick film, but I like it quite a bit, it has a very good sense of enigma to it and it's also very thematically complex; it's pretty fascinating how Kubrick twisted King's book into a semantically completely different story.

Love the film, so much great stuff - the tricycle, the little girls, Philip Stone's superb performance, the way the time captions lose context and meaning as the film progresses.

The axe can be yours https://ukm.propstoreauction.com/m/l...6featured%3Dno

Trivia - the end photo is captioned 1921, but Al Bowlly's Midnight, The Stars And You was recorded in 1934

I adore it. It was in no way the first horror film I had seen, but it was certainly a first experience like it. I'm pretty sure that it was the first time I had seen a fully nude woman. I was 11, and this was obviously long before the Internet. I was thinking, "Wow," and then, of course, it was just total shock and horror. There was no way to unsee that.

But the whole thing was simply amazing on pretty much every way. Also, I think it made a huge impact on my development as a cineaste (as well as Alien, another brilliant horror film, of course; oh, also Apocalypse Now).

The Shining is one of the absolute best films on the 20th century. Not just one of the best horror films -- just films in general. That's what I think of it.

Wrong. Having been a fan of the book, I was appalled by this bastardization, leaving out way too much of the book. I thought the mini-series was much better, though still lacking.

i love literally everything about it. tied with the exorcist (theatrical cut) for the best horror ever. nothing like watching it on a cold winter night, so cozy.

For a horror film its great but for a Stephen King adaptation - one of the worst.

Not sure why? Kubrick changed some stuff, yes but what book that has been adapated verbatim from a book in the history of film? Id say like none. Its a classic horror flick, we agree there.

But that assumes that the job of the film adaptation is to be as faithful as possible, as opposed to simply using the novel as a springboard of ideas in general. I think both approaches can and have been used successfully. But I also don't assume that one approach is necessarily better than the other.

If that's not what you were implying, then I apologize.

If The Shining and Blade Runner were the only two credits he had, his resumé would already be stunning.

I'm not one of those people who are mostly against remakes in general, at all. But I honestly don't see what could possibly gained by remaking this particular film.

My second favorite Kubrick after 2001. Such a fascinating, virtuoso piece of filmmaking.

It's hard to think of another film that boasts as many iconic scenes and images.
