This is interesting! Scene bookmarking appears to be available on the Blu-ray release of 'Vacancy'. I was under the impression that this type of feature was to be incorporated into the BD-Java technology being released at the end of October. Using the PS3 I am able to bookmark via the scene selection menu by calling up the ON SCREEN DISPLAY WITH THE TRIANGLE. Following the colour pattern below the chapter images along the top of the screen makes the process rather simple. Can anyone confirm if this feature is available on the stand-alone players?
Also noticed that when fast-forwarding or rewinding a time bar showing exact time and location pops up within the disc software to allow for precision. Again, something I thought was BD-Java oriented. UPDATE: I noticed that the review of this release on this site didn't mention these facts! If that's due to only compatibility with the PS3 then it's understandable, but if it's a generic feature across all players then I'm sorely disappointed since these are giant steps in icing the cake that is next-generation home entertainment. Plus, it's one less thing that HD-DVD can hold over our heads, "WE CAN BOOKMARK OUR FAVOURITE SCENES TO ACCESS QUICKLY AT ANY TIME INSTEAD OF WATCHING THE WHOLE MOVIE OR TRYING TO SEARCH THROUGH THE MOVIE!" Now, they can't use that as one of 'their advantages'. Last edited by Petra_Kalbrain; 08-18-2007 at 04:34 AM. |

That is potentially pretty cool! Another hd-dvd "advantage" goes by the wayside.
Also, I noticed in the details of "Polar Express" it makes mention of an "interactive game". Does that mean that Warner Bros. have finally come to grips with BD-Java? |

I made a post about bookmarking with only one reply last week. It is on the Doctor Strange BD that came out this Tuesday, but I got it early last Friday.
After searching I found that it seems to be a BD-J feature and it is already showing up on BD disc. It also seems to save the bookmarking info so after playing a game on the PS3 and placing the system in standby, the bookmarks are still there. I am not sure how the bookmarks work on other players as the PS3 is my BD player. |

As far as Doctor Strange goes, Green sets the bookmarks and Blue and Yellow skip between them. Depending on where you are, Red deletes the bookmark. You can also go to Special Features and select the bookmarks there in the Bookmark menu. |

BD-Java has been supported by all players from the start, it's only twin video decoders for Picture in Picture that are coming later.

You know why they have this now? Because movie are more and more authored in Advance mode and in ADV Mode you can't resume (just like HD DVD)
Liongates have been doing this since Weeds : Season 1... because all their film are authored in ADV Mode... |

http://www.hometheaterspot.com/fusio...hp?tid/138176/ PQ AND SQ outstanding as usually Supplements: "Sony’s starting to do a little more with Java. While I had no problems playing the disc, it did boot up very slow with the Panasonic. The PS3 was much faster. But depending on your player, be prepared for a little longer than average wait. Sony’s designed another nice, film specific main menu in HD that’s pretty cool. They’ve also incorporated another time code that comes up at the bottom of the screen when forwarding and rewinding, like the BD release of The Messengers. Thankfully, Sony thought such features through enough so that it doesn’t annoyingly remain on the screen when pausing. But, I still think it’s a feature better left for the player. Sony has also started incorporating bookmarking options on the discs. I’ve never had much use for such features on DVD. And that’s still true of HD. So, it’s hard for me to get excited about as much as I do seeing extras preserved in high def. It was much more exciting getting our first high def look at Hostel 2 in the trailer section though" |
