Default Please Help!!(onkyo 606)

I just got my new Onkyo 606 in the mail today

Got it all setup

Im trying to figure out the DTS HD and DOLBY TRU HD audio formats for my blu rays

Im using a PS3 for my blu ray player.

In the movie I just DTS HD MASTER AUDIO for the sound format

but On my Reciever it dosent show up on the screen as DTS HD MSTR

it shows up as NEO:6 or what not

What settings do I need to select on my PS3, to get the HD audio

I am running my ps3 to my reciever to my tv through HDMI.

Please help, Also Im very new to this so please be easy with me on the jargon!

TIA!!

PS3 outputs HD audio formats as LPCM over the HDMI.

First off, nice receiver.

Now you have to decide whether you want your PS3 or your receiver to do the decoding.

If you have your PS3 set on PCM instead of Bitstream, your PS3 will decode the audio and send it uncompressed PCM to you receiver. Many users then place the receiver mode on Pure audio or Direct. This leaves the audio source untouched, unprocessed and you'll get loseless audio.

Only thing with having the PS3 decode is that you won't get that pretty light on your receiver that says "DTS True HD".

OK So It wont show up on the display as DTS MASTER HD or DOLBY TRUE HD? instead what well it show up as so I know I have it rihgt?

what would be the best, PS3 set to Liner pcm 5.192khz?
and reciever mode on???

my reciever being a north american model dose not have a "pure Audio" setting

Correct, it won't display DTS Master HD or Dolby True HD is the PS3 is decoding the audio.

I would leave your receiver on Direct. This is what I do...

LPCM is what your display should say.

If you don't want the receiver to change the audio at all you set it to "Direct"

That's all you need, honestly. But you can change it to direct by pressing the sound mode button (two arrows) near the bottom of the remote. They changed the remote slightly from the 605 so I don't know the exact location.

You'll want to always leave it on PCM, by the way- the PS3 doesn't bitstream lossless audio.

It was my understanding that the 606 cannot do the other sound modes such as Neo 6 when getting lossless audio such as PCM, TrueHD and DTS-HD MA. My 605 can't. If you press the PS3 display button, you should see what codec is playing. What does it say?

Also, you should have the PS3 audio section entirely checked off with the exception of AAC.

DTS HD MA 5.1 ch 48khz 4.0mbps avc 24.5 mbps

and I need to check ALL sound options in the ps3 sound settings except for AAC?

That's good. You're getting what you need then. Apparently the 606 can matrix out- that's interesting.

Anyway, there's two schools of thought with checking them all- one is that if you check 7.1 and you have a 5.1 setup, then your receiver must roll in the rear surround track on a 6.1 or 7.1 track. Personally, I don't have an issue with this, so yes, I have everything checked.
