Default Angel Heart (1987) 13 November 2019

Looks like Angel Heart is getting the Blu Ray & 4K treatment in Australia:

Cool, I never got it on Blu so 4K will be quite the substantial upgrade

This should be the same disc(s) as the UK and other European territories which means it will be the David M encodes.

Yeah, it'll be the UK 4K disc with a locally printed port of the BD if they stick to the pattern of the other Studiocanal catalog titles released here.

Was it ever confirmed that it isn't censored and has the cockfighting shots intact?

Not yet because it's not out in the UK for another week. German release is uncut.

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that. Probably because the DVD I have is the UK one that "accidentally" snuck through with the uncut version

It is. But literally only a few seconds from the cockfight. To be honest, I personally don't really care cos it's so minute. It'd be a different story if it was the violence or sex scenes.

Huge thanks fo the info. Im a stickler for uncut versions. Looks like its the US version for me.

(There is only one instance where i am ok with censorship and the content crossed the line for me - the animal cruelty in Cannibal Holocaust)

There's no US release yet. That'll depend on whether Lionsgate thinks there's a market for which, which they apparently don't since they usually release their Studio Canal ports simultaneously. Your best bet at this stage is the German one.

Dammit I bought this yesterday along with Wicker Man I wish I had read this earlier about it being cut. I guess it's not a huge big deal though

Yes.

It's the UK John Wick story all over again. But that was different. That was a case where the resulting (and quite substantial) cut made the scene confusing, so I sold the Australian release and imported the US edition. I'm normally very an anti-censorship, but in the case of Angel Heart, it's literally just a few seconds cut of chooks blood. Very inconsequential and completely unnoticeable. Personally, I don't need to see a few seconds of animals' blood and it adds nothing to the film anyway. And I'm not paying through the nose to import the German release just for a couple of seconds of a chook bleeding.

After my first viewing of Cannibal Holocaust uncut, every viewing after that I applied the animal cruelty-free option. Being an animal lover, I really didn't need to see it again and it's obvious what is going on anyway... But each to their own.

I don't like Animal cruelty either. but a dog is a pet we all love. chickens well we eat... but yeah it's nothing huge that is missed, but I find there is no point cutting stuff out of original content. It's frustrating

but America have strange censorship law.. they beep out swearing even if it is words like arse

take the Eli Roth horror special. it was fine to show blood and gore heads coming off etc and full on nudity on the documentaries but god forbid they had to beep out swearing on the interviews or clips.

Totally agree mate. But in this case (for me) it's nothing, as it's so minute and even trivial. Normally I would balk at anything censored and go import another copy... At least I have the old US blu-ray if I really wanna see a couple of seconds of chook blood.

Is there any differences with this blu ray compared to uk one from 2009?
Just noticed i have the copy from 2009 and i thought i did not have it and purchased this from jb hifi, but could not find my invoice. I check amazon and had got it from there.
What a bugger i end up with same film i got 11 yrs ago, you would never think that would happen.
They take this film out 11 yrs later in Australia as it was last November last yr i got it f from amazon bit late to return lol.
I have being doing so much of this lately buying stuff i already have. Luckly i checked on some jb purchases and returned.
But i really need to get my ass in gear and add my stuff to my collection here so i can double check prior.
I obviously never checked what date this one came out in uk prior buying aus one which is a bugger.

If i find anything i want to buy here and it had a date of a uk release then i need check if before 2013. Anything before bloody good chance i have it already.
As i have so much and some for so long its hard to remember what i own. Even stuff i purchased weeks or months ago i can forget.
But im sure im not the only one who has purchased something twice.

The biggest difference is that this has had a 4K restoration job done on it. The difference between it and the 2009 release is night and day in terms of A/V quality.

What do you mean night and day a/v guality? I dont have 4k yet but sometimes buy some 4k editions incase one day i jump on it. But i buy more blu ray right now to save cost wise.
If this had been 4k i not be so bothered but to get same again after 11 yrs of owning it is a bugger.
I have the 4k steelbook coming from zavvi if it ever shows up as seem to be many steels im not receiving thats overdue

The blu ray is also from the 4k restoration and a sizeable improvement over the previously released blu.
