Cool Transformers G1 Series June16th,2009

Over at TVshowsondvd.com they list Transformers G1 series season 1 being released on DVD on June 16th, 2009... Anyone know if that is going to release on Blu Ray as well?

I would say no to it being released on blu-ray. If wasn't announced with DVD good likelihood won't be released on blu-ray on that date

I will pick this up even if it does not come to Blu-ray. I am a sucker for classic cartoons and animation.

Probably no blu-ray release but I'm getting these dvd's regardless and I'm pumped! I missed out when Rhino released their versions and the prices for those are insane now so I never got them. I have been waiting for a re-release from somebody. Now we just need them to re-release the Gi-Joe series.

I heard G.I Joe is also coming soon and I will pick these up also. G.I Joe will probably be out in August when the new movie comes out.

I would like to get a real release of every season even on DVD. I have the one disc that has a few episodes but I want the entire series at least on DVD.

Does this re-release fix the numerous issues that Rhino had with the original Transformers? I held off buying it originally because of all the issues with transformation sequences being out of order and sound quality.

I don't know...I believe the TV show had bad issues like this too, as I remember them.

I don't remember seeing any messed up on the one set I got but heck...what do we know.

Since I am not buying any more DVDs...it does not matter to me for now. I will keep my Rhino ones.

Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors was released on DVD by Shout Factory on March 25, 2008 - the first of 2 volumes, containing the first 33 episodes. If it sells well enough within the first year of release, Shout Factory has already said they'll put out the second volume containing the final 32 episodes. Region 1 NTSC.

Defenders of the Earth - The Complete Series (65 episodes) was released on DVD in two sets by BCI Eclipse - the first on October 10, 2006 and the second on April 3, 2007. Region 1 NTSC.

No word on the others you listed.

All are currently available via most decent online retailers, and often quite reasonably priced.

It is unlikely that old cartoons like these will see the light of day on Blu-ray any time soon, if ever. While they were orginally shot on film, the majority of them were mastered on standard def broadcast video. It is very unlikely that the original film elements still exist for most of them. Sometimes we get lucky, such as in the case of Voltron, and the original film elements DO still exist thus making high quality remastering a possibility. Such cases are few and far between, though, and in most cases the existing DVD sets are likely the best we'll ever see of these shows quality-wise.

Hey guys -

Just wanted to jump in on this one.

The original TV series released by Rhino was primarily based off of the 35" film masters of the show. That said, they were incomplete and full of errors.

I suppose a legit blu-ray release of Transformers is possible, however all the footage just isn't there (or wasn't available to Rhino). They had to use the 1" broadcast masters to attempt to reconstruct several of the scenes.

So BD possibility aside, the Rhino DVD release was absolute garbage. I am very much interested in seeing what they do with the new release of the original series on DVD. I'd love to dumpster the Rhino releases if the new release turns out better.
