It's an above-average made-for-tv three-episode arc that aired on Uncle Walt's weekly TV show in the 60's, elevated by McGoohan's performance as a priest who puts on a truly creepy costume to help fight tyranny (through smuggling). I never saw it until it aired on the Disney Channel (the trimmed-down movie version) in the 80's when I was in Middle School. I think as kids, we loved it when Disney got scary, and this isn't really scary, but that costume sure is.

Yeah, I remember watching it with my brother and sisters on The Wonderful World of Disney in Color when it first aired. We all could not wait until that show came on and this was a big event for us. I wouldn't say we were scared or freaked out but we were definitely mesmerized. I really look forward to playing this for my grandkids.....

Film version is on Disney+ at launch, so...there's that, or, assuming the prices collapse from third-party re-sellers, you can try to find the WDT DVD.

I bit the bullet a few years back and bought the Walt Disney Treasures DVD on eBay for $200, like new. At that time, it was the best price I could find, and as a collector of that line, I needed it! I fell in love with these shows immediately, especially the unforgettable theme song by Terry Gilkyson.

My good friend, TheMadKiwi texted me a picture of the cover the other day, and you could hear me screaming in joy for a good couple miles!

Disney restored these shows in HD for the Treasures release, and it's about time we finally get to see it! They also included for both the individual shows and the movie the original mono mixes as heard on TV, as well as brand new 5.1 mixes for DVD with the original audio elements. As of this writing, nothing has been confirmed, but I hope t'll be 5.1. The Scarecrow is a rare title in which I prefer the newly created mix over the original. The theme song and action sequences have extra depth that makes for a pretty awesome listening experience.

As expected with the announcement of the BD, the price of the DVD set is falling with (non-tin) versions available now around USD50. It's a terrific set to own for the inclusion of the feature length film and the extras.

I find the DMC process to be unnecessarily complex, so I went with a flipper on ebay.

So stoked it's coming out!!!

There were still "not-so-deep" titles that ought to have been released in the Treasures series, like a Ludwig VonDrake collection and a Ranger Woodlore/Humphrey Collection (including the nature hours hosted by Ranger), the Donald Duck on TV hours, and Chip n' Dale Collection, not to mention an Annette volume 2 made up of her TV shows and the remainder of the Disneyland-centered shows (From the Pirates of the Caribbean to the World of Tomorrow and Disneyland Showtime), and of course the opening of WDW with Julie Andrews!. These are all familiar themes for Disney fans and baby boomers. And I still want them, no matter the media.

I'm thrilled to see Scarecrow is coming, but I want more Walt!!!

I hope the Movie Club goes deep into Walt-era material in general. In the 10 years that Blu-Ray has existed, we've only gotten one or two measly discs of the classic shorts. Certainly a far cry from the Treasures that put out the near-entirety of them.

But yeah, this is awesome new.

Just a historical tidbit. The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh aired on Disney's Wonderful World of Color the same three weeks that the Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. Disney ran from 7:30-8:30 and Sullivan was 8-9, so my folks and I would watch Disney until 8, then switch to Sullivan for 10-15 minutes for the Beatles' opening number, then back to Disney for the conclusion, then back to Sullivan for the Beatles' closing number. That's stuck in my mind for all these years. Long before video tape and DVR's, for sure. I can't wait for this!

By the way - I love that they used the original movie poster art for the cover. This should be done with all the classic Walt releases, both animated and live-action.

Oh wonderful news!
I will definitely pick this up, since I missed out on the WDT release.
Love the cover art too!

Very interested to see how this will be presented. Like will all the original opening and closing titles, and introductions etc from each of the three episodes of Wonderful World of Color be included. Or will this be presented sliced together as a single episode. Will they trim some of the introductions/coming next segments etc. Anyway, we will see!

I went to the Disney movie club site and was annoyed that they don't seem to tell you what you are getting- DVD, Blu-ray or 4K?!

The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh isn't...but Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow is (at least on the Netherlands list compiled by this guy here).

Why are you assuming he doesn’t have his DVD handy? Is it so buried in his collection that he needs to buy a new copy?

It won't be the 4K since those aren't eligible.

If you really want to sign up -- go to the Deals/DMC thread and read the OP and FAQ a couple times to make sure you get the best deal.

The BD or DVD you choose at the next step -- enter you promo code, add your 5 items, then it will ask you BD or DVD. If the item you choose isn't available in your format you want it will tell you that and let you change items. OR you can enter the catalog Number from the spreadsheet in the FAQ and you know exactly which item is available.

NEW items like Scarecrow aren't going to be available for enrollment though will be available for you required 2 purchases pretty much immediately after it's on the site tomorrow

It says in the thread "titles in BOLD are on Disney+"

Dr Syn isn't in bold text, but I guess we'll know one way or the other on Nov 12.

i'm thinking about grabbing an extra 2 copies for people on here that don't want to/can't sign up with DMC, all i ask for is price plus shipping (so roughly $30 for anyone in the US)
but i'm also willing to help out anyone not in the US, you just have to pay price plus the cost of shipping to you

PM me if interested

BOTH GONE
