I wanted to share news regarding the 25th Anniversary Restoration of my holiday drama "Solstice", dropping December 15th. The film was painstakingly restored in 2K from the original camera negative and features a newly recorded orchestral score performed by the Budapest Scoring Orchestra. Synopsis:

"For some people, the coldest, loneliest night of the year falls on Christmas Eve. "Solstice" tells the story of one of those people, Nick Allman, a disillusioned young man who has lost touch with the true spirit of the holidays. Set in Chicago on Christmas Eve, it follows his day from morning till midnight as he encounters a variety of characters who help renew his belief in a season where everyone's expectations run high.

From a bittersweet confrontation with his ex-girlfriend to the wise counseling of a friend, Nick is unable to resolve the emptiness he feels even when faced with a multitude of others making the best of the holiday at hand. Faced with a cynicism he can't seem to shake, midnight finds Nick inadvertantly ending up in a church where he is prompted into realizing from the pastor's sermon that the events of the last 24 hours have been the culmination of what he only imagined was missing- the spirits of faith, goodwill and understanding. After an emotional epiphany, Nick must reconcile issues within himself so that he will be able to face the new day not only with a renewed sense of optimism for himself, but all mankind."

I've not heard of this film before, but this campaign looks fun. Obviously, I had no idea the film was being remastered, but it looks like the filmmakers went all out to try and make this release very special. And I really appreciate that the disc is being replicated and not burned.

I'm kind of a sucker for TV movies, and I love that the Blu-ray looks like it will be in the 1.33:1 OAR, too. With that and the extras, it's impossible to resist for $30 plus $5 shipping.

Yes, I've taken extreme care and attention to detail to clean the film up to look and sound better than it did when it was first released. I've wanted to give it the Hollywood Blu-Ray treatment and leave it in the best format it can be for posterity as I move on to new projects and this past 2 years restoring it has been a very special trip down memory lane.

Just to confirm, these will be replicated glass-master BD-ROMs, not burnt BD-Rs? I ask because of the 500 number - I know a few 500-quantity releases do exist, but normally 1000 is the minimum number to replicate, so anything less always throws up a warning signal to me.

Hi rdodolak,

Yes, that was the crowdfunding campaign to restore the film in 2016. As we round out the 25th Anniversary year, I have to order a minimum of 500 Blu-Rays to deliver the 104 for my crowdfunders, so I will have a lot left over, which as I mention in the Indiegogo fundraising video, is what this new campaign is meant to help promote. I don't see selling those after the holidays since it has a specific viewing window like most holiday movies, and it's my hope all the added value bonus content produced this year for the final Blu-ray release will make it a valuable limited edition release.

Guaranteed. This campaign is to offset the MOQ cost since I will have a lot leftover after fulfilling my original commitments to the crowdfunders (106 of them) who helped with the costs of the actual film restoration in 2016 (it's been a long road but the anniversary is finally here
