Dario Argento Directing “Longinus” Series That’s “Suspended Between the Real and Supernatural”

Italian horror master Dario Argento (Deep Red, Suspiria, Tenebre, Inferno) is back and is set to direct a TV series titled “Longinus”, reports Variety.

The show is the 79-year-old cult helmer’s first project since 2012 and “involves mysterious murders, esoteric elements and ancient enigmas.”

The site notes that “the title of the series appears to reference the name given to the Roman soldier who pierced the side of the crucified Jesus with a lance to make sure that Jesus was dead.”

A brief statement from BIM and Publispei said that Argento will lead viewers inside his “obscure and terrifying” imagination. “Longinus,” described as an “auteur series for the international market,” will be “suspended between the real and the supernatural” and will be set “between the French Alps of Grenoble and the Siena of the Palio.”

The Argento TV series is the first project announced by the new production unit of BIM, which was announced last week and is owned by Wild Bunch. The BIM Production banner is being spearheaded by Riccardo Russo, who was previously in charge of international TV productions at Lux Vide, where he produced the series “Medici: Masters of Florence,” which Wild Bunch TV sold to key territories.

He does have a new giallo to film before this - Occhiali Neri (Black Sunglasses) that was confirmed by his Frightfest interview with Alan Jones to be produced by Claudio Argento. The movie was co-written by Franco Ferrini (Phenomena, Demons, Opera). Plot-wise, a blind prostitute (to be played by Asia Argento) and street kid team up to stop a serial killer in Venice! It was meant to be made just after Sleepless and legal shenanigans have stopped any movement on it until now. Très excité that his brother, Asia and Ferrini are on board...

It seems like every other year Argento announces a new project which then falls through; I’ll believe this when I see it.
